Building regulator/shutdown controller question

Im going to be running a BookPC with of a power inverter, and a Lilliput 7 inch screen. Now im wondering how to get it hooked up to the car, I bought an amp wiring kit to wire the inverter in the trunk, now what am i gonna do about a regular and shutdown controller? How exactly does the shutdown controller work? When the key is removed or when the engine is stoped? i dont want the computer to shut down just because i shut off the engine. what are my options?

how would it work when the engine is stopped? lol

When the remotoe line gets killed (ignition/switch or whatever), it sends a pulse to the computer 9as if you pressed the power button) and windows should shutdown (if your motherboard has ACPI sp? feature and it is enabled). If it doesnt shutdown after a set number of time itll kill power completely so no matter what you can just turn off your ignition and leave your car and you wont have to worry about power

and also, i dont think youll need a regulator for an inverter (unless its homemade ) just a shutdown controller.

this should be enough for you to understand, if not search for "inverter shutdown" or something similar
