How Can I Use Half of the Old Sproggy PS

Hello All,

My new MB appears to be working fine. However, I don't think the new Mastero 2.8plus PS can supply enough amps on the 12 volt rail. With a Laptop HD, and the DVD Rom, it often will not boot. I can hear something start to spin, then it stops for a split half second, and then the computer stops booting. Not all the time, but often. Disconnected the DVD ROM, and no problems booting. Attached another (second) Laptop Drive, and it boots fine, everytime, no probs. So, this is my idea, please let me know what you think.

I have the original Sproggy, I think it was the 2.5 I got it from Sproggy himself (As apposed to Mastero). I powered my old ATX carputer for like 3 years faithfully. Never a problem with it. Well, I want to use that original Sproggy to power the IDE devices, and leave the Mastero/Sproggy 2.8 plus for the MB, since the new MB is ATX. I can easily trip the accesory wire (Ignition sense) wire on the original sproggy with the 12 volt line out of the Mastero/sproggy. HOWEVER, and this where the major questions come in,

I had to take a couple of parts from my old sproggy to make the mastero work. I had to take the 2 "Q6" and one of the MAXIM chips, the 787 or 788, I don't remember which, but can check if it important. Now, since I don't need all that 5 volt power for the MB AND the IDE devices, I think I can forgo the extra 5 volt rail, but, what would I need to get the single 5 volt rail and the 12 volts rails to work. Do I need the Q6's. Do I need both of them. Is there any other way I can power the 12 volts rail to get enough amperage to run the IDE devices?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanx
Michael

What is a Q6?

The Maxim chips are only used for the 5v and 3.3v rails, so you are good there.

See here: http://www.sproggy.freeserve.co.uk/p..._schematic.pdf

I think it would be better to determine if your DVD drive is bad before you build a power scheme around a possibly faulty component. The DVD may be pulling more 12v than it should if it is bad.

Please choose one thread or the other, don't cross-post to two threads with the same question.

Oooopss, I think I meant T6, but then realized I didn't. This is what I was talking about

47UF / 5AMPS INDUCTOR (COILCRAFT, RENCO, WILCO)

I have the coilcraft parts. I transfered them to the new Mastero PS.

I will definitely check the DVD ROM, but I thought about this, and thought I would ask to see if it was feasible.

As for cross posting, Since I had started a thread about my troubles, I thought I would continue the thread with an update of my situation, and to ask the questions about the second PS.

I posted a new Thread because the Original thread had a Subject line totally unrelated to my new question, and I figured that people who weren't interested in the previous thread, might be interested in the new thread because it was a different problem/question. Not everyone reads every thread.

However, since it appears to bother you, I will edit my posts accordingly.

Thanx
Michael

The 47uH inductors are also used for the 5v/3.3v rails, so you're good to go.
