His ad says to plug it right into your battery, but that's probably not a good idea.

It doesn't give the opperable voltage range...

Also, the size of this, in relation to the opus and mini-box ps make me think that it is more like the mini-box, designed to run off of 12v, without the inconsistencies you can get in a vehicle.

Supersized one of the images

12Vin +/-15% so that's 10.2-13.8v operating range.

So that would mean you'd want to have a tank circuit with 2nd battery and isolator? In case the current dropped too low right? From what i'm reading it sounds alot of cars drop below 10 some even down to 5 or 7 volts.

Hells no, Mine has never dropped below 11.5V and I have two amps pulling 180A at max draw! And I have a 110A alt. and a ****ty walmart batt.

During cranking, a car's voltage can easily drop to 8v or below.

Also notice that this device is quite amazing. It is able to produce energy.
Max input current is 6 Amps, yet it is capable of producing 7 Amps of output on the +12 Volt rail (plus all the other rails). It is able to produce 120 Watts on only 6 Amps at 12 Volts = 72 Watts. Quite amazing.

If you put a number of these devices in serial (increasing the power every time), then you could probably run a Toyota Prius for weeks off eight AAA batteries.

It doesn't regulate the 12v rail.. So take the 12v rail out of your max power calculations and i'm guessing you'll get more realistic numbers..

i agree with newtech. something fishy about this. even though 12v rail is not regulated, you shouldn't get more amps out of an unregulated 12v rail than the amps going into the device. basicall that's like 8-14v 6amp goes into black box, 8-14v 7amp comes out.

It is the same as far as I can tell, and I'm not sure where the 70/120Watt discrepancy comes from, but I have one and it works fine. All I use it for is my DVD player and my USB hub.

Even mini-box's site says that the pw70a is 70W, but can generate up up 120W.
I think the ebay add is specifying the peak.
They do this a lot w/ car stereo amps...so I'm not surprised someone is pulling this stunt w/ computer PSUs.
