how much ampere can you run trough that cigarette lighter?
And does that regulate the 12v?

that looks like a casetronics case, if so, Monarch probably uses the supplied DC power supply. Unfortunately that is not suitable for auto use do to the fact that the 12V rail in the power supply is un-regulated and can potentially cause damage to any 12V accessories hooked to the computer. A car's "12v" system varies anywhere from 8-15 volts at extremes.

It looks like it requires two DC power cords which makes me think that it has one for the 12v accessories and one for the rest of the system (slimline DVD and hard drive are 5v). Could mean that it would work just fine on an unregulated input.

Without getting into all the issues of whether it will or won't work off your car voltage, you can go into Radio Shack and get a cable with a "connector" on the end that is the same as the car accessory outlets or cigarette lighter.

I don't remember whether they have one with just wires on the other end or if they were extenders so you'd have to cut the plug designed to go into a cig lighter outlet off.

You'll have to figure out how to get the wire to the battery and you ABSOLUTELY need to put a fuse in it right near the battery if you hook it up directly. I'm not sure the insulation is up to standards for the engine compartment on these things. (But it may be - I just don't know.) If I were doing it myself, I'd use stranded wire for automotive use in the engine compartment and run that into the pass. compartment and join it there using some insulated crimp terminals.

It gets a little more complicated if you want to switch it on and off with the ignition - which I would do to prevent draining my battery.

The quickest, cheapest route is to splice into the existing cig lighter circuit which will be fused and is probably already switched.

Radio shack also makes a 1 plug to 3 outlet adapter if you need more than one.

There are other places which sell these things too, so R-S isn't your only source if you want to do some searching. Of the top of my head, I don't remember what search terms to use however.
