250W DC-DC PSU for non-mini mobo's

If you need a dc-dc psu for your mobile setup, Keypower is an alternative solution to the very complete Opus, but has about 100w more for those of you with that need. They have both AtX and AT, and include the p4 conector for new mobo's. The price is $197 (plus $5-8 shipping in US) for the ATX, (unsure about the AT), so it's on par with Opus' money-wise. In order to have all the auto power-up/down capabilites, you'll need to throw in a shutdown controller, such as that offered by Jeff Mucha, for $30 in US, $40 International.

The purpose here is informative- letting people know a solution I'm considering.
In all, this setup will cost about $235, not bad imo.

Awesome- i was slightly unsure that it'd fit the application, but the specs speak for themselves. i just bought one today for $197+8 for shipping- ince deal, and with Jeff Mucha's tank circuit, total is only about $240, great deal if u ask me- will work just like the Opus- plus i will have a secure amount of power- thank god my pc's bios will boot pc upon power availability detection, the shutdown unit will do teh powering off portion, cheers- i'm excited, as u can tell

Will it supply enough power when cranking the engine?

No, because when you crank the engine the voltage supplied from the battery drops to around 9-10 volts, and that isn't enough to keep the PS on, or any PS at that matter that runs DC-DC.

The opus works just fine through cranking

My DC-DC is built using a PT5071 (input rating 7-16V, output 12v), and a PT6625 (input rating 9-16V, output 5V). I therefore see no reason why it would stop working at 9-10V, even though it is a DC-DC power supply.

My Sproggy works fine when cranking. And if I had a PSU that didn't, I would add a tank circuit (that's what they are for.)

Where can one get these tank circuits? Or a description of them?
