Opus 150 PS available for Shuttle XPC
Just thought some of you with a Shuttle XPC might want to know that OPUS SFX-1215 150 watt PS with a Shuttle XPC bracket is now available. Just ordered the first one from Kris today and will receive it tomorrow Friday Dec 5th 2003.
Can't wait to get it in and not have to play with having to go through the procedure to turn it on and off all the time with an inverter.

I visited kris yesterday and bought a 150watt power supply and the bracket for the shuttle. It's awsome! The bracket fits perfectly in the shuttle with the power supply.

I think some of the newer XPC's use 250watt versus 200watt.
Whether the size is different I don't know...

My SN41G2 uses a 170-watt PS so there was a difference of 20 watts.

if there are less watts being provided by the opus then the original power supply, does it matter? and how?

I emailed Kris about this yesterday - will post the reply as soon I get it, as I want to power my SN41G2 with the 150W (I thought the SN41G2 had a 200W PSU?).
My feeling is that unless your running a fully loaded system, it won't be a problem.
What I don't know is how optimistic the rateing is on the XPC supply is vs how conservative the Opus one is.
BTW Kris sent me some pics of the shuttle supply/bracket - anyone interested in seeing them? (PM me with your email, but it'll be Monday before I can send them).
Car pc project on-going (XPC + Lilliput + 802.11b + GPS (CF) + D-Link FM + anything else I can think of) in a 94' LSE Range Rover.

He doesn't mention he is using an external video card instead of the built in one.
His hard disk RPM isn't mentioned either, but that wouldn't bother me.
That being the case, he should be more than fine.
As he said, it's not loaded full tilt...

I am running a SN45G with a XP2600, 512 400mhz ram, 200GB 7200rpm HD, ATI 9500PRO, Audigy 2, wireless keybaord, 802.11G USB Access point, USB GPS receiver, TWO powered USB HUBS, Slot load DVD/CDR, Xenarc 7" TS.
The OPUS powers it all just fine. I havn't had a problem yet.

The psu that ships with the shuttle takes ac in, whereas the opus takes dc in.

so in such a situation, wouldnt it be more cost saving to buy a ac-dc convertor than purchase an entirely new ps for it's dc-dc ?

namshik,
To answer your question probably, but what is it you want to finally accomplish. Just powering your puter system or are you trying to integrate your puter into your vehicle.
You will need to read many of the posts that are already in this forum. There are many reasons to go with either an ac-dc, dc-dc. Money is not necessarily the motivating factor. For me the ease to turn on and off the puter is much more important. There are many ways to accomplish getting your puter up and running. Read through the posts and you will learn a ton. I wish I had found these forums years ago. It would have saved me much in playing around to find what works best for me.
By reading through this forum and you will read about invertors, caps, tank circuits, power supplies, shutdown controller, etc. There is a ton of info available to help choose what type of system you will want. Your financial status and capabilities will help you choose what system you will want to use.
Have fun,
Gary

The pics that kris has is from my computer. He took them when I went to pick up the power supply and the bracket. My sk41g came with 200watt power supply. I have a amd +2400, 200GB HDD and a DVD rom player in it and it work's great. I had added a ATI all in wonder 9000pro and the power supply cound'nt handle it. Now I have a ATI PCI tv tuner and an AGP geforce 2 64mb graphic card an it is working fine. The tv tuner can not be played to long with the engine off because the voltage drop's just low enough causing the computer to restart. If you dont add one of the newer power hungry AGP cards with the fans in them it would be fine. I'm pretty much pushing the power supply to the limit.
