My 90W opus does not like the COLD!!

If the outside temp is below 30 deg (F), my opus will not turn on. Matter of fact, the green status LED does not even blink when it's cold (as it should when the supply is in standby). Temp warms up to 40 or 50, and the LED blinks, and my system will turn on fine! Anyone else have this problem?

It may not be your Opus, but your battery. Check your battery with a voltmeter when it's cold and find out what it reads. If it's under a certain voltage, the Opus will completely shut down to avoid draining the battery.

Even if this is the case, though, it should power on within a few seconds of your engine starting (and your alternator taking the battery voltage up to 14-16V or so)

My opus has reliably worked when it was 5 deg. Farenheight outside, so if it's not your battery voltage going wonky with the weather, then you probably should get in touch with opus about it!

FWIW, my Keypower didn't like it below 30F. I would wait until the car was somewhat warm before switching it on. I'll pro'lly do the same with the Opus just for safety's sake.

Mine does the same thing, i live up here in New England, and we have had some Brutaly cold temps the past few weeks. Over night my Opus 90watt wont turn on. Because i dont have it on a switch, i usually end up getting out of the car and unplugging the wire a few times before the LED starts to blink. Sometimes it wont turn on from this and i unplugg it for awhile and come back to it after 30 or 40 min or driving and it works. Once, it never came back on after 90 min of driving. I have checked the power to the opus with a multimeter and it is at like 12.4 volts.

Its not the batt voltage because I connected a batt charger (which brought the voltage up to over 13v) and it still woudn't turn on. I'll have to check the voltage on the opus itself...maybe there is a bad connection that occures only when it it's cold.

I did plug the cable into the opus and take a reading from the prongs coming out of the connector, and that got the same voltage...so i know the connector has a good feed of power, maybe it is somewhere else. Did you send yours back last month because of the recall? I did and he soldered on a small resistor, now, i know it wasnt cold back then, but i never had these problems before, and now i do.

Do you have an aluminum case? I had the same problem. It appears that when the temp is under 25F the PS will not power on. When I noticed is that the case remains very cold (metal) so I rapped it with a blanket (yes, I know how bad it can be with warmer temps) and now it seems to be working. I will keep an eye on it and report. I also spoke to Chris and he heard about this problem from other people so maybe there will be some news from Opus. Did anybody with the 150W have problems like this?

I just emailed Kris at Opus asking about what the problem is. In the past month, I have had it working for a total of 3 days, and each time I had to take the computer inside for the night to keep it from getting cold. This is obviously not an acceptable solution. The operating temperature is -20 degrees C, so 30 degrees F should not pose a problem. Ill post back when I get a responce.

I just wanted to let everyone who had this problem to email kris. I got my supply replaced. Just make sure you tell him which model you have

, i forgot and he mistakenly shipped the basic version, i had the remote trigger, so after some cross shipment, I got the correct one. I got the replacement in about 6 days after I contacted him, and I just mailed my old one back in the box the new one came in.
