Question Power consumption question

Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out how much power my system will consume. One thing I'm fuzzy about: If I have several devices connected to a USB2 hub and the hub is powered off of the car (ignition wire), i.e. it's not bus powered, will this 'count' against how much power my power supply must support? Do I still include the devices in my calculation?

TIA,
Per

Thanks, that's what I'm trying to use. It doesn't answer my question.

If the usb hub has power coming to it (wired to car), how do i calculate the power consumption of the devices going to it? Intuitively, I'd say it does not factor into the equation because the power supply won't have to support it - it's already getting power from the car. Can someone confirm, deny?

TIA,
Per

Confirm, the power is coming from elsewhere, won't affect the PSU at all.

Where did you get a hub that uses 12 volt? Or do you have a standalone 5 volt regulator?

Don't have either yet Just doing the research...Sorry for the ignorance, but what's involved in getting / making a 5V regulator?

i would like to find something like this too....that added power of not needing to power USB could be re-directed to another HD

keep us updated if you find anything.
