It does not because it will not work this way. It works by emulating a power button push. The motherboard then starts the power supply. You have an option of doing the "push" yourself, which disables the start-up/shut-down controller.

If the motherboard signal IS needed to start it, then just splice the cables as shown in the article.

i am looking at getting the 150W, but am not convinced that it will supply enough power.
why would it need only 150W when my desktop uses a 300W power suply?

Because my 300watt PSU is currently powering:
full-size ATX motherboard
P4 2.8@3.1Ghz w/ the extra 4-pin connector
2 sticks of 512MB 2-2-2-6 (which had to be pumped up to 2.85v to run stable)
a 64MB AGP video card
NIC
Sound Card
2x floppy drives
LEDs
Creative Labs LiveDrive!
8x DVD+/-RW
16x DVD-ROM
48x CD-RW
2x WD 120GB 8MB Cache HDs
a GIANT Vantec CPU fan
2 more case fans
a plethora of USB devices.
With all this (and some people run more on 300watts) I've never had any sort of power problems, and I doubt I'm near the the max for my PSU.
Now, picture what your carPC will be running.

I have this in my car. OPUS 150w will not run it.
full-size ATX motherboard ABIT KG7RAID
AMD Athlon 1.3ghz
2 sticks of 512MB DDR
a 64MB AGP video card
NIC 3COM
Sound Blaster Sound Card
DVD+RW IDE Drive connected by usb
Maxtor 7200rpm 120gig IDE hard drive
2 more case fans
usb gps
instead of the opus, I have a generic 150w PS connected to a 350w inverter.
I bought the opus 150w to replace the inverter and the generic ps.
the opus does not work for my system because it is 20amps LESS than the ps I have now. Just letting people know before they get an opus.
Now, IF you have a EPIA M-board, the opus DOES WORK. My friend is installing a carputer in his mustang, has M10000 and we connected it to the opus with a 80gig maxtor 7200prm with a cd/dvd combo drive and everything worked. I chose to use the ABIT board because I already had it.

This is only a plan right now, but I have a Pw-70A (I'm waiting for my Opus) and want to use the Opus to switch on the PW-70a. The Opus will power the devices internal to the case (Mobo, AGP Video, PCI USB for DVD, PCI Audigy, PCI PCMCIA adapter with wireless card, and HDD), and the PW-70A will power the external devices (USB Hub with devices plugged in, USB DVD, Lilliput). What would be the best way to turn it on? Could I just wire that turn-on green wire on the Opus ATX header parallel over to the PW-70A? Or would it have to be completely isolated somehow with a relay??

change the battery on your motherboard.
When the shutdown controller kills power to the power supply (all built into same unit on Opus) then your motherboard is without power except that which is in the battery on it. This battery allows your cmos chips to retain their user adjusted settings. I wouldn't be surprised to find other BIOS settings reset on your system to the factory defaults (if you have changed them).

doh! since its the original battery. cmos has not lost its settings, just the clock loses time. The clock does not reset, just says its a couple of days behind. I will change it and post later.

I had the same problem. My clock was loosing time. Swapping in a new battery fixed it for me.

running them side by side or parallel can overload the power management chip on the MB the 5v stand by line
when you do it side by side you aren't powering the hdd's with it any more but the 3.3v and 5.0v rails still don't have enough power and your back where you started
when you run them in parallel you will have enough power but the 2 supplies will both be trying to control the load and this will cause over voltage spikes every now and then and that will fry the MB sooner or latter I have a friend I call him GOD because there is nothing he can't do with computers or electronics he did it both ways and only parallel worked for a while till it fryed a Sun Micro System server can you say OUCH !!!!!! expensive
any way if you want to try it if your PC still works a year from now let me know

For those of us that are not sure if the 150W powers supply will be enough, i emailed Opus and asked if there are any plans for and bigger unit.
their reply:
The 220W or 230W power supply will be out around September 2004.
Think i might wait till then.
