My Sproggy 2.5 died...

Help!

The computer has been in the car, working fine, untouched, for a couple of years now (celeron 366, 10g 2.5" hd, Asus MATX motherboard and a Sproggy 2.5)

Today all was well, until the screen flickered, and the computer went dead. I've been testing, and the sproggy seems to work fine, except for the +5V line. It gives 4-5V with no load, dropping to 2V with any load.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what could have fried? Nothing seems to have shorted, so a component must have burnt out, but before I start disassembling, I was hoping for a pointer or two as to what it could be.

Thanks

Its impossible to pin point a problem just by what you have said .. Check visually for burnt out Parts...

Use a meter to check the 5volt section...

My guess is the MAX787 chip is fried...! not 100% sure ..

And for heavens sake change the title

Using a meter just confirms what I said above.

I'll swap the two Maxim chips over, see if I can get the 3.3V working on the other half of the circuit. One of the MBR diodes looks a little scorched, so it could be that. I hope it is, as that'll be a lot easier to replace.

Oh, and title changed - didn't mean to panic anyone. Oops..
