power on problem ??? help please anyone
hey...
i have installed my system and i works great when i can get it to turn om ..... problem is that only every 5-10 time i power the computer up, that i actually boot up....i dont know why ???
some times it power instantly, and some times the screen just reads "NO SIGNAL" and nothing happens but my computer is starting that i can se and hear....does anyone know of this problem ???
is it the controller on the motherboard that is the problem ? i have changes the harddrive to a brand new 80 GB and it works great, so that isent the problem....
Best regards

Hmm...can be anything really. Most likely its the motherboard.
Go for minimal cofigurations, remove the hdd, cd, extra ram or card.
If you can boot up ok with bare PC then you know the problem is on one of the part you taken out. Put them back one by one until the problem reoccur.
Hope that helps anyway.

what Ricky told you is good advice.. but if you can really hear your system booting, what does that mean exactly? you can hear the harddrive/cdrom drive start spinning? that may not mean that the computer is starting, just that your drives have power.
so like Ricky said i'd try booting with just the mobo and video card.. it should fail on bootup with a no ram message, but you should see that. then add ram. try again. then add hdd. try again, etc.. it could also potentially be your video card.
i know its not very helpful at this point, cause it really could be anything.

That suggests that your power supply is at fault. What is your power solution?

Are you starting the computer with the engine off? ITPS drops the voltage by about 1.3V and the 12v power supplies (if it's a pw series unit) generally won't boost it back up for the 12v line (they have no regulation on the 12v line). Check the 12v power coming out of the power supply for a low voltage.

when the car is running and the computer i measured the power supply on the amp, ( i have 2 amps installed, connected to the same powerwire as the computer..) it measurer 13.9 volts when the car is running, and 12 volt when the computer is on and the car engine stopped...

So you didn't check the 12v coming _out_ of the power supply like I suggested. <shrug>

Hes getting 13.9V in the the ITPS. That should be enough to put out a constant 12V.
Yes as rob said do measure the in and out voltages of the ITPS. If you do get a 12V out of the ITPS then it should work fine.
If you are still having problems I suspect the ITPS is having problems turning your PC on. Verify this by connecting a spare PC on/off button directly to the motherboard. See if you can turn on your PC on/off manually with the ITPS supplying the power.

I had the exact same problem with my lilliput. It turned out I had a bend in the monitor connector.. Recheck it to make sure all the pins are perfectly stright.

It could be because you screwed with some settings in the bios. I just did that yesterday. I set a setting in the Advanced Chipset features to LCD by acciden and was left with no screen. I had to flash the CMOS.

okay i will have a look in the BIOS, .....
but could it really be the problem, cause sometimes it works fine and starts like it should ???
i just tried to put a new RAM block in and then it startet the first time, so maybe its was a bad ram block i had in ???
i will now wait till morning to see if it wil start then, cause the carputer has never been able to start after it has been left in the car overnigt....so if it starts i the morning, the problem may be solved....i hope
thanks for all your replys, can only say this i truly a great forum !!!
Best Regards
Kenneth
