Opus 90w Shutdown Power off Problems

Hello,

I am hoping that there is some simple answer out there for my problem. It is as follows:

I have been working fine with my Opus power supply with the factory installed jumper (leave standby power on). After realizing that my battery is being conistantly drained becasue of my serial GPS and USB keyboard (zippy backlit) I decided to remove that jumper to shut off all standby power.

After i did this i have noticed intermittantly that when i turn off the ignition(shut off ACC power) that the Opus 90w will NOT shut down the computer. So the friggen machine is left on. That means i have to sit in my car another minute or so after i get out to make sure that the computer is shut down.

I have no jumpers installed, there are two jumpers one for 20 min shutdown delay and one for the stasndby power. What am i doing wrong here?

Does anyone else have this problem?

If the OPUS fails to shutdown the computer the diagnostic LED should blink an error code. If a “soft” shutdown fails it will perform a “hard” shutdown after a few mins to save your battery.

I see no blinking error code?!?

where is this located? What color is the LED?

Why would it work until I removed that jumper.

I still have many questions.

Any help or direction is greatly appriceated

Maybe email or call Kris at Opus and ask him. Then make sure you report back here to let us know!!

Other than that, I'm not sure why it would be doing that...or even it is supposed to or not.

I've noticed the same thing, even though the jumper is set for shut off, my xm-pcr still glows and anything else pluged into USB still recieves 5v from the ports. It hasn't become an issue yet, but if theres any special setting for the bios or something that'd be great...

Yes there are many threads about the USB still receiving power from the Opus even when the machine is shut down. Apparently this has something to do with the ATX specifications and not the Opus.

One solution people have found was to run all your USB devices thru a USB hub. And that hub should be powered by the Opus. Therefore when the Opus shuts its power off, then the USB hub will not have any power supplied to it, and therefore none of the USB devices will be powered.

Aparently my problem was misunderstood.

First of all the opus 90w does NOT have problem where it leaves power on the the USB and serial Devices. The Opus 90w has a jumper that can be removed that will shut down standby power. The opus that has this problem is the Opus 150w. I own the 90w

Now that thats cleared up... My problem is that ever since i removed that jumper (leave standby power on jumper) my opus does not properly shut down my computer when i take the key out of the ignition. Now it isn;t even shuttng it down at all. For the time being I just use the touch screen everytime i want to shut down the machine but it was really nice when it was all working how it was supossed to.

Any help? Anyone have THIS problem? Anyone have any fixes?

Update:

I haven't permanantly fixed this problem yet but seemed to make progress on it when finding a loose ACC wire. After i fiddled with the wire It started shutting down perfectly. Then when i closed everything up i must have bumped the wire tap again and it stopped working. I am going to remove the POS radioshack wire tap and just splice in there and solder it like i should have in the first place.

Thanks for the help
