@Taz: This solution was already discussed higher up in this thread. It doesn't work because it requires the Opus to tolerate the IGN line going high before the Battery line. It was discovered that the Opus power up only worked intermittently under such a scenario.

Rando,
I'll have to do some digging to find the schematic for my motherboard, but thanks for the info! I looked at the parts in post 125... can you verify those are sufficient for this mod? I really appreciate all you've done with this! Did you have any adverse effects from the hub not being powered up? I'm running a USB keyboard on the hub and I'm concerned the PC won't see it if the hub and PC are shut down for a few days.
Care to speculate why OPUS didn't take care of this for us?!?!

i sent mine back to Opus and they fixed it by changing the firmware and something else.. turned it around in 1 day, didn't charge me shipping back to Canada either.. now my Opus 150w is completely off (including all USB devices) when i shut it down.

Seriously, they did that?!? Oh man!!! I've been beating my head against the wall with this issue!!! Did you just contact them through their website?

That could be an even better alternative!

Yah, those will work but that relay is a bit on the pricey side. Any 12V DP relay with a contact rating of a couple amps or more should work.

ya, hey guys, i can wire up computers, high end a/v stuff and done many car systems without problems.. but looking at Rando's electrical drawings, im not so good at reading schematics, so i just contacted Opus via their website.
they changed the firmware and i think something else. at the time, i didn't have my new vehicle so the power supply was just sitting there and didn't render my system useless, so it was a no-brainer.. i figured either spend $20 on the parts to build a circuit (that i wasn't quite sure about) or spend a couple bucks more (for express post) and send it back to the US from up here in Canada and have it done right at the factory..
i know the guy i emailed was named Rafal and he was great..

The word from Opus:

Just got this from Rafal:
This issue can't be resolved by a firmware upgrade.
What we can do is modify the power supply (hardware change) to turn 5V STDBY off.
You would need to send the power supply in for the modification, and also pay for the parts and labor.
We charge 20$, this includes shipping (UPS ground in continental US) the power supply back to you.
The turnaround time is 1 day for the fix and the time the power supply will be shipped "to" and "from" us.
(exact time depends on your location)
So that option is out there! I'm going with Rando's solution since it is going to cost less, is within my wiring/soldering abilities, and will keep the car down for less time. This is a GREAT THREAD for those who encounter the same problem. Now the info exists to help people choose either way!
Thanks Craig.

Thank you Rando. What about those diodes? Are they the right spec?

OK, I tested this idea with a 7 port powered USB 2.0 hub. I'm happy to leave my machine on standby as I drive the car regularly and have had no problems with battery drain. When I switched from a 4 port unpowered hub (previous config) to the 7 port powered, with +5V power from the molex, the machine will now intermittently reboot on standby. Sometimes it comes out of standby no problem, sometimes in reboots. I noticed the behavior is worst when I am running software which is actively accessing a particular USB device (i.e. iGuidance). Any help would be appreciated -- perhaps simply a recommendation on a 7 port hub that does not have this issue? Though I don't understand why the specific device should make a difference.
I have verified that this is *not* a current draw issue on the +5V rail, even with all of my devices connected.
Thanks!

Wow, i guess i was lucky to get it for free, they might have seen this coming as i told them i was active here at mp3car.com .. i guess $20 isn't bad considering Randos fix would cost too.. you would be down a little longer though..

I'm running this 7-port hub without the problems you've mentioned. On that hub, I am running my Powermate, touchscreen, keyboard, mouse, Bluetooth dongle - all items the PC is looking for on boot-up - as well as a parking camera. Hope that will help you out and I'd guess that the problem is related to the most recent piece of hardware you added - your new hub, right?
