*NOT* Looking for beta testers for new DC-DC PSU

**We have enough beta testers...Thanks!!*** 5/15/04

I'm looking for a (very) few beta testers for a new DC-DC power supply we will be introducing in the near future. If you currently have a Casetronics C134 case with an EPIA motherboard, and your unit is currently installed and operating in your car, and you have some time to put into testing this new product, please send me an email (mikeh@carnetix.com).

The new unit is designed to be used in front of a CarPC that has the Morex type internal PSU (unregulated +12V input). It includes a sophisticated startup/shutdown controller (jumper selctable timouts) as well as a delayed +12V output to trigger your audio power amplifier/electric antenna/etc. It's capable of taking and input voltage from +7.5V to +16V and providing a regulated +12V output at 5 Amps (60W). It's been designed from the ground up for the CarPC envirnoment, and with a lot of listening to requests and comments on this forum . It's a commercial product and priced comparably with a shutdown controller (~$40) plus 60W DC-DC PSU ($50). Target retail price is $79.95. We expect to begin limited production in mid-May.

Our new website is almost complete and I will be posting a link with full specs and information soon.

I look forward to working with you guys to beat on this unit before we get into full production.

thx

Looking at your website you have opened up several commercially available PSUs to make your design. I am not big on law, but last time I checked reverse engineering is not legal for comercial purposes.

Ark,

You're absolutley right. It's probably not in good taste to post some of the internals on the web site (removed). But these were posted in response to many questions of users here on this board. Hopefully I've been able to help quite a few folks with their power questions.

Search google and you can find numerous documents that describe various types of LEGAL reverse engineering for commercial purposes. I'm not a lawyer, but I think the concept of reverse engineering and legality is, in fact, complex. It's likely difficult (and certainly arguable) to say that MikeH has viloated copyrights or infringed patents based on the content (previously) posted on his web site.

As for me, I'm eager to see what he produces. Hopefully I can participate in the Beta testing.

Mike:
What's happening with your new PS? I have an Epia M10000, Xenarc, Audigy, XMpcr that I need power for. Can you give us an update?

It's in beta testing now. I hope to make final tweaks over the next couple of weeks and will be in limited production in late May/early June. Thanks for asking.

Glad it's going well, put me on the list for an early purchase. I'm really confused about how to handle the power for the pc and related items like the amp. Hopefully, your unit will handle this.

Why only 60w?

I do have an opus 90w and would like to upgrade.

How about something like 200w? A lot of us run a whole bunch of power hungry mouths to feed and could benifit from a high power PSU. That way we can get the P4 systems that we want. Right now i feel kinda stuck with the VIA EPAI M10000 becasue of its low power consumption
