ITPS and Slim DVD Power question

Hi there, i've got two questions.

1. Does anyone have a circuit diagram for an ITPS with the names of the parts, they look very basic and i'd like to try make one (from maplin.co.uk), i dont need voltage regulation as itll only be powering a relay to start the inverter.

2. I've got a laptop slot load dvd drive from here. I was wondering what my power options for it are, i'll have an ATX power supply in the boot but itll be quite a hassle taking the 5v to the front where the DVD will be mounted. I have a DC-DC power adapter but it only has a 4.5V and it probably isnt quite up to computer power standards. So if thats no good, do i have to extend all 4 pins from the power supply and if so will normal power cable work?

You need to program the PIC12C508A Chip (the code is on page 16-19), but the rest of the components are simple.

for question 2 ... i wouldn't use that dc-dc adapter. You should extend power cables from the 'boot' as you say.

however you don't need to extend 4 wires ... just 2. slim drives only need 5v, so you don't have to run the 12v line up ... only the 5v line and one ground line (technically this could be grounded to the chasis if you have a solid ground for the pc ... then you'd only need 1 wire).

right, so if i ground the mobo to the chassis then i can just run 1 5v wire up to the front and ground the drive to the chassis as well?

Theres no problem in grounding the motherboard & HD e.t.c to the chassis rather than the invertor?

well ... if you're using an inverter you should tie the inverter to ground. The inverter should just pass the ground through to the PC, so the PC should be indirectly grounded to the chasis.
