2003 E46 here...
srcstc is right. Use the harness that goes to the factory amp. That is what I used, and my PC is in the glovebox.

GORK: any idea why the ACC line from the amp would stop working when the factory HU is removed? I dunno...in any case, I guess I need to run an ACC line from somewhere else. How about the cig lighter?

The switched 12V in the trunk is only on when the factory radio is on. The factory radio signals the factory amp to turn on.

Did we ever find an ACC on in the truck BESIDES the factory amp (which shuts off when we do not have a head unit) in an E46 situation?

If you remove the headunit completely and keep the factory amp like I did, I wired the ACC line in the dash to the amp-turn-on line in the radio wiring harness (also behind the dash). In this configuration, the amp turns on whenever the car is on, thus the line going into the amp in the trunk turns on whenever the car is on too. You could use it this way to control the OPUS power, but that being said, if you have to run *any* wires at all up to the front of your car (you certainly will unless you keep your screen and everything in the trunk) pulling an extra piece of 16-18ga wire for the purpose of turning the opus on with the acc line brought back from the front of the car.... it's just a total non issue. Why are all of you guys hung up on it? Even if there was a wire on the amp harness, you'd still have to locate it and tap into it on that small little connector with no room for error if you screw up... it's flat out easier to bring the acc line back from the front of the car.

gork, I see what you are saying and this is what i decided to do. My OPUS is mounted right next to my HK amp and I fugured this would be easy however, I am running power lines from the front so running on emore is cake.

What power lines are you running from the front? You should run a new circuit for the OPUS psu directly from the battery. This is especially easy since it's in the trunk already. You only want to run the ACC power (yellow wire) from the front. Run the 12V and GND lines directly from the battery in the trunk. Put a fuse on the 12V line run as close to the battery terminal as possible. Use a 15A for the 150W opus or a 10A for the 90W OPUS.

There arent really any circuits in the BMW that have enough overhead to accomidate the 8 to 13A that the OPUS psu's need, so running the seperate circuit for the opus is not really only a suggestion -- it's fairly essential.

Do I have this right?

- Run 12v and Ground lines from the battery to the Opus in the Trunk (not sure on gauge)
- 10amp Fuse on the 12v line from the battery to the Opus (not entirely sure what this entails, but I will )
- Run 16-18 guage ACC power line from the dash for the HK amp in the trunk (for auto-on)
- Run VGA to the dash
- Run USB to the dash

Thanks!

I should have clarified Gork. I have 5 wire (single run) cable that I am running from the front to the back for powering some units. I am powering my DVD/CDRW and 2 USB 2.0 hubs in the front of the car withe these cables. The power lines for these are running to the back of my car and I am going to use a seperate wire on this line for the ACC on. My OPUS will be powered right to my battery in the truck.
