Arenīt you refering to a tank circuit ?? as far as i know, the only way to get a stable 12v in a car when cranking it's with a tank circuit.

Why would you need anything then If your input is 12v and you want an output of 12v, I would connect whatever you have directly to the input voltage
get it

On a more serious note try Radio Shack or some electronic store if you just need to keep the voltage stabilised.

If you want a low 3A max 12.6v one based on Mastero's design, there's a lilliput regulator by shchua. The important thing I've learned from this design is that the voltage must drop some between input and output, so at 13.x in you can get 12.0 out, but at some specific voltage it will break down and drop considerably, so you need two sections. One that steps up to volts to say 20+, then the other regulates it down to 12. That's how you keep 12 in or even lower during crank at 12 out. Just a simple regulator can't do that.

i need 12v even when the engine is cranking.. so i need something that will make 14-8 into 12v..
