Arise PSU problem!
Hi
I wonder if someone here knows whats up. I am replacing the PSU in my system with the Arise PSU. I have it nearly working, but one more problem remains. I have my jumpers plugged back into the PSU, as per the tech's suggestion. I thought it was all working because it would POST, windows would put up its splash screen and the little startup progress bar would do its thing. Then the screen goes blank and nothing further happens.
If I plug in the old PSU it works fine.
Any thoughts? I checked that there was 12V and 5V where there should be, at least in the few places I know.
I dont recall if I ever looked at this screen before, but if I boot to the BIOS (with the Arise PSU) and look at the voltages section, it says the CPU fan is 0 RPM (its not, because I can see it spinning nicely), it also says the 5V lines are all 0, which again, they are not. This might happen with the other PSU, not sure, will try later.
Motherboard is EPIA M10000, DVD drive and 2.5" drive. I have power to HDD and CD.
Any thoughts or tips/tricks?
Thanks!!!

how do you have the arise wired? did you wire together the - and GND connectors?
You've probably already seen this thread, but just in case: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=23273

I have my battery connected to +12v to +12v and +Ve (chassis) to -Ve, the 'E' input is left unused. I then have the 3 pin jumper plugged back into the PSU on the vertical board (so the computer switches the PSU on). And I have the 2pin jumper plugged back into CN4.
I have the Molex into the Mobo, and I have the floppy power cable into my CD drive, for some reason it uses the floppy style 4 pin power connector. Since there is only one floppy style power I bought a regulart flat 4 pin HDD power connector to floppy for the laptop 2.5" HDD power source.
Power must be getting to the HDD otherwise it wouldnt boot XP right, although its something power related obviously since the PC doesnt get past the XP splash screen when running on the Arise, but works fine on the alternative PSU.

Run a wire of the same gauge as your chassis ground wire between E and V-.
EDIT: oops, I didn't see your previous post. Looks like you're already on it.

Just tried it and no luck, same thing. How can XP be getting the splash screen progressing and then just go blank. I wonder if I powered the lilliput from the Arise it would change anything?

Wait, is it just the screen going blank or is your CPU shutting off as well?
If it's the CPU then my guess is that while the progress bar moves along, XP turns on various hardware devices requiring more and more power. When your screen goes blank its probably crossing the max power threshold of your PSU and that's causing your CPU to turn off. But the Arise should handle your setup without a problem. I have mine wired exactly the same as yours and I'm powering a Celeron 2 GHz that uses 60W of power, a 3.5" HDD, and a DVD drive with no problems. It's hard to imagine your M10000 requiring anything close to the max power output of the Arise...
Can you hook up a multimeter to your 12V rail and measure the current draw during boot up using the old PSU and the arsie? Also, are you testing your setup with the engine running or while it is off?
More questions: what's the exact voltage on the +12V line going into the Arise? And, finally what was the old PSU you were using?

The CPU I think is still running, although im not sure, the screen is not off, but blank, but you can see there is some video voltage. The power LED remains on.
I agree that the Arise should be fine. The old setup was an ITPS + the 60W PSU that came with the system, it was internal to my C134 case. I haven't measured the current drawn, I did check that 12V was still 12V under load.
The engine was off during all of this. It makes too much noise to start right now - my toddler will wake up and then my wife will beat me with a frying pan!

Well, I'm willing to bet the screen going blank has nothing to do with your lilliput and that it's just a side-effect of your mobo shutting off due to insufficient power. Now, as to why it's not getting enough power...I have no idea. I'll leave that to the electronics experts on this board...
Have you tried booting windows in safe-mode? It might initialize less hardware that way so you might be able to at least troubleshoot a little more. I've reached the end of my (short) rope with suggestions, so hopefully someone else more knowledgeable can jump in. Good Luck!

I tried safe mode this morning and it comes up fine, runs nicely, I left it running for a while too. I am at a loss as to how the PSU can account for this difference now...

I have the same problem with my Aries. It will power up the PC sometime but most of the time it will hang at the post screen. Sometime it will get as far as yours and I get the black screen too or it will load xp and hang. When I boot with the inverter everything work fine. Hope some find a solution to your it may also help me too.

I have called Arise and they have escalated the problem, hopefully they will find a solution. NoPiston is probably onto something because its right after windows starts the network that the problem happens. I bet you'll find safe mode without networking will boot for you.
If/When I get this working I'll post the results...

Some things I learned will I had my Arise up and running:
1. Watch out if you are not using a ITPS or equivalent it will drain you battery
2. If using a ITPS you must bypass the voltage regulator, or the Arise will not detect the proper min voltage to turn ON
3. I had all the same problems with the system half starting.... what worked for me was turn of AC and all unecessary acc. stuff and rev engine
4. System did not survive crank using a Arise
5. For what it is it's to big....
