Solution for Power for Car PCs

Problem:

Laptop or computer connected via inverter from the car battery, everytime you turn off the ignition, you have to turn the invertor off, although some will not drain the battery completely and leave enough for start up of ignition. Still, turning off the computer on and off for daily errands can be a Pain in the neck.

Solution:

I decided to buy a 12volt Battery from www.batteryweb.com with 55amps of drainage power. Its a big bulky HEAVY thing, recharged daily with my battery charger. The laptop and creative soundblaster NX2 is linked to this via cig lighter adapter. It runs without being shutoff through out the complete day, without a needed recharge on the battery, it lasts about 16 hours straight or even longer, since the laptop and creative NX2 does not take alot of amps.

Does it work:

Yes it does, so when ever I run errands, I leave the PC on, without shutting it off, its cooled with laptop fans in my backseat, without any heat issues. I leave the car, come back and the laptop is still running..so I dont have to shut it off and turn it back on all the time..HOW CONVENIENT.

my 2 cents

Now get rid of the invertor for a more efficient power supply so the battery will need charged less. Then get a battery isolator and wire it up so you can charge both batteries from the car. Dual battery setups are used by a lot of people, I have a second battery but no isolator at the moment.
