Epia Mii10000 And A Morex 60w Car Psu

Hey all

Just thought i would pop the question out there seeing as im stumped.

I have a VIA EPIA MII-10000 and a Morex 60W DC DC with regulator

The Power supply boots an old p3 866 with a gigabyte board and a gf2 installed but it will not boot this new board which i thought would have lower wattage requirements then the other board.

When i switch the machine on i get a humming noise coming from the PSU and the fans spin. I have a fujistu 20g HD which i was using but disconnected and still have the same issue.

I know buying a Opus would be the best idea but to get them in Australia anit the easiest thing to do.

If anyones got any ideas at all then im all ears....or eyes....or something

Peace

There are many stories about how the ITPS doesnt quite fit the bill for inCar use (not without a second battery at least). I think the Carnetix regulator/shutdown controller would work well with the plug in PSU you linked to.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the Morex, but i've heard similar stories on here before... I wonder why?

I've powered an Epia MII 10000, desktop hdd, slimline dvd/cdrw plus a USB GPS receiver and usb keyboard/optical mouse from a Morex 60W, so it's definitely not power requirements.

Does the Epia boot up if you plug it into a standard household PSU?

Avoid that "200W" PSU and the ITPS, they'll cause you more trouble than they're worth. Stick with the Morex and get yourself a Carnetix CNX-P1260, as it was designed specifically for use with the Morex PSU.

just a note, if you do get that 200w snapon power supply, most of the snap-on ones dont actually snap on to the m21000 because of the pcmcia and cf card slot housings, i just got a power extender. like this one http://store.mini-box.com/ituner/atxexca.html

You can see their should be no problem if your just running a MII1000 and a morex 60W supply (you did not specify any other hardware so I will not assume you are using any). Morex 60W supplies 1.5a constant on the 12V rail. Morex specs

The MII1000 uses only ~200mA on the 12V rail under load. Page 14 of this spec

Thanks for all the replies

Ok so ill steer clear of the 200w thingo.

And Yes the board boots off a 250W PSU, HD ticks over even installed windows on it when the 250W psu

however when i connected it to the morex PSU HD ticks like its trying to turn over but just sits there ticking (yes i have disconnected the HD)

Im not using any other hardware other then the Morex Car kit and the EPIA board but even without the Carnetix i should still be able to boot the board, Engine on or off it dont go, I have seen the other forums where they have the same issues but with no answer why.

I called the place i bought the board and the PSU and they are telling me that 60W wont power that board and a HDD, I told em they are full of it and just dont want a RMA on there hands.

But i would like to get this going without changing PSUs so to my previous question does anyone think this should boot without a carnetix, my thought would be yes but hey my luck with this car project is going down hill

Well after 1 day of screwing around i found the issue, a Standard 250w AC PSU gives around 5.2V on the 5V rail and about 12.1ish on the 12V rail....

My Morex gives about 4.8V on the 5V rail and about 11.3V on the 12V Rail, I think the other board would boot because the other board didnt care it just flikered on the screen and gave dodgy sound output the MII10000 is more piccy....

Time to RMA the Morex sell it on Ebay and buy a Opus the thing that i didnt want to do :/
