Question: Powering Xenarc from Morex 80w?

Hi guys, I've searched a bit but I can't seem to find the anwer to my question:

I have the Morex 80W power supply (from logic supply) and a Xenarc. I don't want to go straight from the cars 12v to the Xenarc as I've read that this may blow the xenarc (even though it's supposed to have an internal regulator).

Can I power the Xenarc off the Morex 80w? Maybe by splitting one of it's outputs?

I'll also be powering a epia 10k, 40 Gb 5400 rpm hd, a CD/DVD combo and keyboard.

Well the Xeanrc eats up about 8-9 W. If the hdd and the cd rom are laptop ones, it would probably work. You buy a power connector that fits your Xenarc, and then you run two wires to one of your molex connectors, one to the 12V line, adn one to the ground... Nice and clean.

Cool - thanks. Yes, the HD and CD/DVD are laptop drives. Any idea how much power the motherboard + HD and DVD will eat up?

Around 28W in idle mode, 40W in dvd playback mode, 32W in network mode, 35W in mp3 playback mode, and 38W in office applications.

I'm currently doing this with my 60W morex case and it does work (I split into one of the mini power connectors). The problem I have discovered is that sometimes the power surge with the screen coming on will make the hard drive stop working and I have to restart. I bet the 80W wouldn't have this problem because it's so much more powerful.

Clearlly, in my opinion a power issue. Get a bigger PSU.

Update:

Well, I bought a Power splitter and spliced in the power line from my Xenarc. Right now, I'm still powering the PC from AC (using the AC to DC brick that came with the PSU), but everything seems to be working fine. I ran the setup while watching a DVD with no issues whatsoever.

Here's some pics, I know it looks ghetto, but it gets the job done.
In IMG_338 you can see a close up shot of what I did. I stripped the + and - wires from the cigarette adapter that came with the Xenarc and soldered them in to the 12v and ground pins of the male power connector. I covered the joints with electrical grade silicone, to make sure nothing would short. I then put a piece of shrink wrap tubing (which turned out to be too big) over the whole thing to protect it.
In IMG_337 and IMG_339 you can see the power wire running out of the back of the case.
