How many wires go to the shutdown controller?

I'm going to put in a shutdown controller that will power down my computer and my inverter.

The shutdown controller obviously needs to be hooked up to a switched power source so it knows when the car is on and off.

How many wires go to the shutdown controller from the switched power? Is it just one wire from say the head unit that tells the shutdown controller to start up? Or do there need to be two wires?

this is what i did:

that's the most recent with pics of my shuttle wired up. I didn't use a cap, so no delay, but it shuts the inverter off after the computer shuts down (leaves on if computer hangs, but that shouldn't happen...much )

Also uses this for com port trigger: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...own+controller

Thanks for answering, but can you translate all those colored lines into english? haha It's 1:30 am and I've been at this for hours. I no longer have the ability to read wiring diagrams. Is there one wire running to the shutdown controller or two?

Which Shutdown Controller are you using?

Here is some info for the Mpegbox one:

Simple answer:

Three. One constant on +12volts. One ground. One switched (like the accessory line).

The DSSC only requires 3 wires: Constant 12v, GND, and ACCessory.

To turn on additional devices, such as Amplifiers, USB hubs, etc. You'll require one connection between the DSSC and each respective device. These connections are optional, however.

Kind regards,

Thumbs up Typical application with Inverter

Here is a connection diagram for the DSSC. This image is of an installation using an inverter and the PC's power button (ACPI). DC-DC power supplies would be connected similarly by substituting the Inverter with the DC-DC power supply (ie, Opus, etc).

Hope this helps!

Well, since we're all in this fourm, the Mpegbox one only requires 2 wires per a few of the diagrams I posted. Ha!

+12 and Ground.

You can add a switch to Accessory or just tie them together.
