shutdown command through parallel port

Is it possible to tell windows to shut down via the parallel port? How about a USB port? Both serial ports are being used already

You could use a USB keyboard with a power button. Or you could get a USB->Serial dongle and use the built-in UPS service to shutdown windows. Alternatively you could write some code to monitor whatever port you want and shutdown windows.

TurboChris, you can shutdown your computer using the parallel port with the DSSC shutdown controller. We can provide you with code and examples of how to do it using our controller.

It's simply a matter of connecting 2 wires from your parallel port to the DSSC to make it shut down properly.

Kind regards,
CB
