need suggestion on powering a laptop motherboard, details inside:

I have a laptop motherboard with 512mb ram, and a p4 2.0ghz, wifi, etc.

It uses the same kind of AC power adapter as a sager laptop (round connector with 4 evenly spaced pins)

I've read through all the different PSU's and ITPS, power cascaders, etc.

Is there anything I can get for a laptop board? How can I make this work: automatically power on and off with the car?

Right now I have a DC to AC inverter, and the AC adapter for the laptop...

here's some specs on the AC adapter:
Voltage 20.0 V
Output 120 W Max
Polarity P1 & P2 +

ok I was asking around, and my friend told me there's a remote wire behind the radio (usually blue, sometimes yellow...). this line provides 12v only when the car is on.

correct me if this is wrong.

with this, this will automatically give power to the AC-DC invertor, which will give power to the power brick. Now I just need a way to simulate a power button press. I'll dig around a little more to find this.

I plan on using a readonly style solid state storage. This way I can just "pull the plug" to turn the computer off and won't need to cleanly do that.

do you guys suggest any other way?
should i use any kind of inline surge protector or a cap?
