laptop usb question

I've got a t20 with a usb2 pcmcia card. I'm using "hibermon" a program that was posted to put the laptop into standby mode when running on battery.

So when a song is playing, I am able to take the keys out and the laptop goes into standby mode. The problem is that when it wakes up, all the usb devices re-initalize ( including the 200 gig usb drive that has all my multimedia on it )...and the song that was playing earlier no longer continues at the same position, and windows comes up with the autoplay from the usb hard drive.

Anyone else experience this problem...or how to stop the usb devices from re-initalizing.

I doubt that there is anyway around this, it will be a 'feature' of the Laptops BIOS at a guess.

Could you post more details, i.e O/S Frontend you are running etc, Chipset on Laptop etc

solution = get a bigger internal drive and store your media there.

usb coming out of hibernation is quirky ... don't think anything can be done.

Don't other laptop users use standby? It almost works perfectly. The laptop powers off all devices and thens goes on standby....since its pulling no power from the car battery, I let it standby for as long as the laptop battery has power. I can come out of standby in less than 5 seconds. I have a IBM t20 thinkpad.

I have used various front ends, but i don't think it has anything to do with that. I'm using XP Sp2.

Wonder if there is another alternative to standby....maybe a software "pause" function....that way, when i take the keys out of the car, and the car is running on battery power, i can "pause" everything...then if i come back within 5, 10 mins and put the key back in the ignition, the system would un-pause. If i'm not back in 5, 10 mins, then the system hibernates...different from standby since it doesn't actually turn off any devices.

hi kato,

i would use standby function on my t20, but what i need is a solution for wakeup or the poweron simulation

how do you start/restart your t20 every day, i need a diagramm for the pinheader on the internal keyboard or another place to solder a powersw-wire on the mainboard.

what is your solution? you can help me?

cu puNk

next step for the thinkpad is an usb2-pcmcia card for external drives
(hope the grammar is ok)
