OPUS 150 do I really Need the 4 pin atx cable

according to step number 7 in

installing the sfx dc dc power supply....


"7. Connect one end of 4-pin ATX 12v connector to J7 and the other end to p$ motherboard atx 12v connector (this cableis not supplied with sfx-12-15 in standard pack..

The 4 pin ATX Connector (the square one - 2x2 pins) is used for High Power motherboards like the P4's. If your motherboard has the connecter then yes, otherwise no. I have the Opus 150w and I don't have the connecter on the motherboard so it doesn't apply to me.

Look at your motherboard manual and see if the manufacturer recommends using the connector and with which processors you need it for.

Could/should this 4-pin connector be used for 12v power to some other device that needs 12v?
I've thought about that because my Shuttle mobo doesn't require that connector.
I don't want to pooch something by hacking that up without knowing beforehand....

Kind of ironic, considering that it's often advised in this forum against using Opus 150W with high-power CPUs
