Keeping Power Supply on 24/7 ?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering, would it be OK to keep a laptop power supply on 24/7? The laptop has no battery in it, and the USB ports get shut down when I hibernate it, but the laptop (and the car laptop power supply) are still getting power. Any idea if the power consumption is too high to leave on 24/7? Thanks!

Should not be too big of a deal, you should be able to find specs on the computer for the power consumption in hibernation, times it for two for power supply losses and to have a safe assumtion, and calculate from there.

Thanks for the quick reply rushnrockt. I am tempted to think that the PC may not draw any power at all while hibernated because I can disconnect the power supply (I have no battery), and then reconnect it days later with the PC to un-hibernate properly. I have a BMW E46 (3 series) and I'm concerned with killing the battery (currently I have a power supply cut off switch to make sure no power is being consumed). If I use a miltimeter to test voltage at the cigarette lighter (where the PC is powered from), is that a reliable source?
