Post Arise ACE865V does not work

After reading the rave reviews on the Arise PS I ordered one and installed. However I cannot get it to work. The HD spins, and the 16x2 LCD lights up, but nothing else. I only have the mobo, 1 HD, and LCD powered by this supply. I did notice that the orange wire is not on the P8/P9 connector. Arise says I don't need it.

Any Ideas?

Cool

Some u need it and i think u have one of those stupid MB that need a GOOD signal which is what that orange wire one is for. Tap the wire next to it into it and u are good to go

And BTW, it works

Your motherboard probably needs a power good signal. You may just be able to fake it by hitting the reset button a few seconds after you power it up. Usually the board will start to boot. Also, search the forum for "power good". Lots of info.

Unhappy

Tapped red wire over to power good connecter. Read voltage and it showed +5. Connected PS to mobo and supplied 12v to Arise. Still nothing other than HD and LCD.

Also, I don't have a reset button connected.

At this point I may have to go back to the inveter.

It is an M571LMR, unknown mfg. Here is the URL where I bought it http://store.yahoo.com/aaronix/m571lmr.html

It's about a year old and has worked well w/ the inverter although some minor noise.

I'm trying to use the DC-DC to reduce noise and parts.

The 571LMR needs a power good signal. I had the exact problem with the exact motherboard . You can fake it by pressing the reset after you power up the supply, but that gets annoying after a while. Best idea is to make a power good cicuit. Search the board for the schematic.

It's probably a good idea to connect the reset anyway.

Aaron, thanks for the info. I searched and found the power good question with a lot of options (cap& resister, buffer chip??, 555 timer, ETC

I'm really short on time and since you've gone through this exercise before, could you tell me exactly what you did/built?

For about a year I just did the reset button trick. Then when I had to replace my HD, I installed a RC circuit (resistor, capacitor, the simplist of all timers) to supply the power good signal. If you look farther down in this forum, you will see several examples of RC circuits.

aahhhhaaa...believe it or NOT i had that same MB. A 555 timer will SOLVE ur problem. Go to sproggy site OR you can get the schematic's from me. BTW, that was a nice mb too but i never used it in the car, gave it to my friend....

Charles, I feel that I'm very close to resolving this problem.

I looked at Sproggy's site and saw the schematic for a power supply w/ power good, but I didn't see anything referencing a 555 timer. Can you post yours here or email it to me at dcl0@onebox.com?

Please keep in mind that I know very little about reading electrical schematics, so the more basic information the better.

Much thanks for the help.

OK. I picked up all the parts for about $12 at my local electronics store (of course they had to substitute an equivalent timer). I figured out what pins on the transistors correspond to the connections on the schematic (thanks Aaron) and I even figured out that the 220k resistor needs to go to +5 by looking at a schematic from the timer manufacturer. I will be putting this all together in the next few days. Wish me luck…, I’ll need it.
