Electrical moron needs some help before he burns the car to the ground.....

I added a DPDT switch between the power & acc and my opus 150 so I can control whether the PC starts up or not. Throw it one way and the PC starts with the ignition. Leave it in the middle (off) position & it wont start up, throw it the other way & starts up immediately. This was documented before & I got it working correctly.

Now I want to insert another switch in the power line before the above switch so I can turn off the power completely to be certain the PC can't drain the battery. I got a SPST illuminated rocker switch to turn on/off the power & have a red light showing power is on.

The diagram on the back looks like the attached diagram:

I have a 12V line going in and want to have a 12v line going out that is switched....and I want the power light on when power is on. My first attempt at this meted the plastic off my test earth wire with great rapidity. I guess an earth is not correct

How do I wire this up? I could use the help as it seems I'm an electrical retard

You need an ON-OFF-ON switch.
Something like these

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

Top pin connect to battery +
Middle Pin connect to Opus's ACC/IGN (or triggle wire).
Bottom pin connect to car's ACC/IGN wire.

Operation:
Push top ON - instant on without key inserted.
Center - OFF
Push bottom On - On with key in correct possition (ACC/IGN).

OK, thanks. I have another switch I can use. Doesn't light up, but it'll work.

Be sure the switch is rated to handle the ammount of current (amps) that you intend to run thru it. I just learned this a week or two ago on this forum (thanks for greenman100).

I couldn't find a small enough switch (physical size) that handled the current I wanted. So I installed a relay. The switch is inline with the relay's control contacts while the PC is powered off the relays switched contacts.
