Will the m1 atx work if it isn't connected to a mb? If not, which connector pins need to be shorted?

Not sure what you mean - you mean at all? As in the main motherboard loom is disconnected at the power supply end? I have an M1-ATX and I have the motherboard loom connected but I don't currently use the "Auto ON/OFF" jumper (J6 I believe) to automatically tell the motherboard to power-up/down. Are you referring to this? ATX mboards can be fooled into working by shorting the green wire to one of the black wires (ground).

Yes, I don't want to connect the mb loom at all. So if I connect the loom, it's the same colored wires that i short to fool the m1 atx, into thinking a mb is connected? If so, I should be able to short two of the pins that the loom connects to on the m1 atx, without connecting the loom. I just didn't know if it was required on this power supply, or if it would work without having to short anything.

My plan is to purchase this as a secondary ps and use it more like a pol for my cd burner, usb hub and monitor. My main power supply is maxed out with the set-up that I am running.

Well I don't think the M1-ATX is particularly "aware" of the motherboard per-say - in your case you can take whatever power you need from the motherboard output on the M1-ATX, i.e. where you normally connect the motherboard loom into.

I believe the M1-ATX is always powering this - it's just the green wire on the loom that tells your motherboard to start up.

Sorry, forgot to add that you do of course still need the M1-ATX to have both the +12V and IGN lines powered for this to work !!

You might be able to get the max. current values from your M1-ATX manual for the different outputs.
