I have mine with the Molex connectors closer to the power supply. I didn't try the other way.

mine works at least at home (connected to a normal PSU). got it shipped from mini-box.com a month ago. Thanks to Andrei for the help.

Mine has them closer to the MB.

That 's really strange (didn't work the other way round)

When you guys had problems with the 'original' M2-ATX, did the mobo EVER power up at all? Or were you having intermittent power issues?

My M2 seems to be acting up intermittently. Some days it powers up fine, other days I get the classic "mobo doesn't post, but fan starts spinning".

You think this is enough to justify an RMA?

I honestly can't see it making a difference what way you install that cable, only diff i can see is maybe less foltage drop (if any) on the molex connectors, cause they aren't being carried across the wires from the ps to mobo.

this issue of swapping the molex around really is buggin me. I'm not disputing it, just annoyed by it! how can 1.5 + 2 = 3 not be the same as 2 + 1.5 ?

My first guess was that it's dirty wires, but someone said that wasn't true. So my next guess is that it's some kind of resetting of the M2 or discharging of it's capacitors etc. is that plausible?

Mine was that way with the M1-ATX and again with M2-ATX as well.

For the longest time I belived there was something wrong with the M1 and M2. I now firmly belive that there is nothing wrong with the M2 (or the M1 I used to have) and there is a mobo problem in terms of a grounding short. I even bought a new ATX PSU and hooked it up and the carputer acted the same excat way which is post some times, and not others.

I was researching this and on another forum someone suggested two things that actually helped solve a similar problem for a member. I am going to try them both tonight when I get home:

1- Swap case fan connectors. According to that post, if CPU fan and case fan connectors are not connected to their correct pins, the motherboard will fail to detect the CPU fan running properly and will fail to post sometimes.

2- If above does not fix it, then remove everything, the mobo, the psu, the HDD, and everything else from the metal computer case, place them on antistatic bag (or dry cardboard) and run them. If it now works then there is some sort of a ground short that is causing this. Inspect the ground wires and insolate the posts where motherboard screws into.

I will let you know what mine does tonight.

The hard part for me is testing this issue. Because it happens intermittently, it's hard to know when something you've changed actually made a difference. For instance, at first I though my mobo wasn't powering up because of my USB hub drawing too much at bootup, so I unplugged the hub. Next bootup, everything was fine, and it seemed to work fine for a day or two....then the issue came back again.

It's funny...I'd rather have the thing NOT work at all than have it work sometimes. Just easier to troubleshoot!

dont put the board or anything else with power on an antistatic bag. The reason its antistatic and has a silver sheen to it is because it is metal coated which will short everything out. Cardboard it good tho, rubber mat is better.

I know excatly what you mean. That has been my problem all along too, which now I find out made me unfairly blame some who may not have deserved it.

In my case, when it does not boot, I can get it to post if I hit the restart button several times (5 or six times) in a matter of two seconds. Can you do the same?
