Fried M2-ATX

Hi, I have a fried M2-ATX. The Q12 chip got burnt after less than 10mins in the Ampie casing in my car I bought the M2 from Digital WW around a month ago.

Well, do you think the hardware warranty covers this situation? The 15A fuse is fine, so couldn't be a current surge right? I've tested the system on the desktop PC's ATX power supply before installing it in the car. Running it on a VIA SP13000 motherboard, 80GB notebook HDD and routed regulated 12V to Lilliput LCD display.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

It never ceases to amaze me when people come to these forums about warranty circumstances.

Contact the vendor and/or manufacturer.
We're forum junkies and don't handle warranty repairs on the M2ATX.... Geez.

Likewise, I am also amazed at the answer that you give. I am asking whether the forumers here have encountered similar circumstances (a fried M2ATX) and how they went about solving the problem.

Of course I have the common sense to email the vendor about the matter and awaiting a reply.

He like to police the forum, nit picking and puting everyone in the right place even when the post does made perfect sense.

If you post in the OFF TOPICS then he would have ignored you. You can talk about your sexual problem if you wish. Fact is, poster get encourage to post in the off topics, hence the large amount of BS in that section.

Tell me about, it is amazing how much time some of the members spend in here throwing insults instead of correcting. Dark obviously feel good about it, hes the forum bully didnt you know

As for your questions, I dont have the M2 but there should be enough constructive members in here who can share your experiece with the M2. Im sure they will be able to help you out.

The same thing just happened to me. Bought mine from mp3car. It stayed on for a couple mins and then the Q12 component fried. I think its an FDS 6680A MOSFET. I contacted mp3car but they have not gotten back to me yet.

Thanks for the tip, I am still waiting for the vendor to say whether he can RMA for me.

Were other pc components affected by the power outage? The SP13000 I was using got burnt too

Now I am thinking whether to get the CarNetix CNX-P1900, cos it's built in a separate case (with a fan too!) and has almost all the features that M2 provides.

Do let us know the outcome of the RMA ya?

How did you know which component fried? I have looked around a bit and I can't find a schematic. I'm curious if it's the same one that fried on mine. I just sent it back to Mini-Box yesterday.

There's no schematic diagram available in the user manual or online.
I took a close look at the capacitors and black colored chips on the M2. One of the black chip had a burnt and rough surface and it gave off a charred smell too. The marking below the chip reads "Q12". Its very near to the two yellow blocks (L3 & L4).

May I know how the M2 got fried in your setup? PM me if its not convenient to post here.

My story is pretty similar to yours. I set it up, ran it through two complete boot/shutdown cycles, and then after remote starting my vehicle (it turns on my PC just like starting with the key would) I got in it and smelled fried electronics and noticed my PC was not working. I think that was likely the component that fried on mine too, it was next to one of the caps, near the yellow squares. I already sent it in, otherwise I would look. Whatever component it was, it was toast--there would have been no way for me to read any writing on it. I also bought mine from Digital Worldwide, and Armen has been pretty good about staying in contact this time.

I'm also a gamer. Soooo.

1) Using a traditional ATX setup with a decent AGP 3D card. Anyone have any experience?

2) Also, I'd like to do some sort of dual-monitor setup, possibly using ATI's dual-head solution. One would be a smaller touchscreen near the dash to control the system, and the other would be a larger display for GPS navigation, MP3 visuals, DVD output, etc. Do any of the overhead monitors accept SVGA or DVI input?

3) Some sort of LCD display on the dash for control. I'd also like USB ports on the dash, as well. The Matrix Orbital products look good, but space may be an issue. Any input?

4) I'm also looking into some sort KVM switch (using only the video) to be able to plug in a regular monitor. Thoughts? Ideas?

The concept is to be able to drive up to a LAN party, plug into the network, plug in a monitor and game on. The idea of an RJ-45 behind the gas filler door sounds cool, as well.

There's a well where the tools reside presently behind the passenger seat. I think I may be able to squeeze a micto-ATX board and components in there. The cover would make a handy template for a plexi window, with some lights behind it, I think.

Like I said. Right now, it's just concept, nothing more.
