10 amp power inverter that is 170 watts constant

Do they make a power inverter that only draws 10 amps so that it is safe for cigarrete lighters, buy has a 15 amp and 170 volt continuous power output? My problem is that my laptop seems to draw alot of power, so I need a large power inverter.

Amps, watts , volts you are mixing them like cocktail ...reread it again and correct it . Anyway 10A from 12V source is only 120W ( P = U*I ... and of course you need to consider inverter efficiency)

Have you bothered to do any comparison shoping of different inverter models?

Or try looking for a DC-DC adapter for your laptop that's designed to handle the power requirements and work from a cigarette lighter?

If you have the laptop power adapter, you can read WTF it say for power input and output and buy accordingly.
If the adapter said 115V @ 800mA, buy an inverter that can produce at least 1A or 120W and make sure that the cig lighter can handle 10A. I am sure newer car can handle upto 15A.
