Powering external DVD
Hello boys (and girls, I hope ) this is my first post.. so my greeting to everybody.. I believe this is the most complete forum in the world I read it from several months! I'm an italian boy ( world fifa champions ) and I begin with my first request for help:
I ordered (not yet delivered) this slim and slot-in DVD LITEON SLW-831SX ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...MP=OTC-yah00TT ). This has USB connection to PC but a little flaw : external power.
How can I power this item? I believe it's 5v.. was someone able to give it power through USB?
Thank you

you will need to power it via the external power line. Since it's 5v you can power it off of the 5v rail on the PSU.
Which PSU are you going with?

I'm not understanding your second post. What are you trying to tell me?
I'm telling you that you can power (and need to power) that drive off of the 5v rail on your power supply for your carPC.

no problem.
however, I will warn you up front that this is a complicated hobby. It requires a lot of research and a lot of trial and error. Use this forum to help you with all of that and things should be a lot easier for you.
Good luck!

The hobby is not complicated for me, the carpc works fine.. it's complicated to search the answer: if you try to search what I need, tell me if you find it

not that i've seen.
not sure you would want it anyways.
Power next to signal on that level would probably interfere with the signal.

..sure, separate. jack to usb for power it. usb connecion has already the cable. I heard that the slim DVD works w/o external power from desktop PC or laptop, so I believe that it doesn't work for poor amperage (?! understand, I don't know it's the right term). In the M2-atx there are the 20pin connector (for the MoBo) and 4pin connectors (is it only 12V?). Thank you

ok - I think your english is creating a few problems on my end.
The DVD drives don't work without a seperate power sourse. They can't get enough power down the USB line. something like 100 milliamps is all that can travel down the USB power line.
If you try and run much more power down the USB line, you're going to run into noise issues. Where you are going to be causing interference with the signal wire.
On the M2 - the 4 pin wire is a 12v power connection. For the P4s.

so, I believe to take the red wire (5v) from 20p Mobo and I can power the dvd.. exact?
