Once I completed the changes, I designed a board and made my own unit (took time). I have all files for the board available if you like, just need your email address to send.

As I've always stated, Luwe is the designer of this unit, I just added a few things here and there and made a Pcboard for it. Luwe has always pushed everyone to build and make there own, which is now where I stand on my next version of board. However, if you want a board to simply turn on and off your PC, then its a simply design by removing components off the first revision board and stripping the code.

i'm a little embarrassed to say this but " i have no idea what you are talking about."

if you were to send me an email of files i woudn't know where to start. However, if you have write ups or can point me in the rigth direction, i'd be willing to begin reading and studying other people's projects.

Thanks for the vote of confidence

Ok, I have completed the touch sensor design for my doors, which I'm planning to shave off the handles. I still have to make the board itself, but I have tested the circuit on a breadboard and it works. This will tie into a new startup/shutdown board design, which I'm developing.

If I send you all the files to my first gen board, all you really need to know is how to solder and make a PCBoard. If you read some of the older pages on this board, you will find the links on how to make the board and were to download the software for free to read the drawings. If you don't know how to solder, then this would be a great time to learn or maybe you know someone who does..

hah! i may be a novice but i've had my share of soldering and electronics...my weakness is in understanding.

I have however, taken action by buying me some books on electronics as well as google any topics covered here. I will be starting from the beginning with some simple relays but it's a start.

Instead of building the contoller, you can just buy the platform, add stabilized power source and output relays, and you're all set spending about $30. The other part is software, but it's rather easy. I'm planning to get few boards and write some cool apps for it. The processor used on this board is very powerfull, so it could be really cool starting point for many apps.

That's a cool little board dupa2, but its will not be able to support the newer features that I'm looking for, plus additional boards would have to be made and interfaced to the AVR board. However your right about is being a good starting point.

Just some updates, I have deigned the board layout for my touch sensors for my doors and it should be all completed by this weekend. I have also decided to use the touch screen as the controller display instead of a LCD, so that I don't have to fab a small screen into the dash. I have to be honest, I would like to integrate voice prompts instead of screen text, saying that the computer is on, turning on or off, relay is active and so on. Still thinking about it.

optczr,

i have a power inverter which whenever i get in the car i have to "flip the switch" on. I then proceed to power on my pc and monitor (lilliput 8"). I don't mind not having the lcd or voice prompts so much as i would like my pc to power on the minute i start my car. Can your board help me? If so, uh, is there a how-to included for wiring?

I was reading on relays, and that alone got a little confusing for me in the area of what wire goes where....

Thru hardknox, and please don't laugh ------well, you know what - LAUGH - the damage has passed and the experience was worth it and i too am laughing at the struggles i went thru in order to impress myself and others....but well worth it

Thru hardknox, i've damaged so many parts of my projects that it's a miracle i've stuck thru it. It's also a miracle i didn't damage my car - a brand new one at the time of my starting point....

at this point i'm tired and i want to be extra careful not to continue the same patterns; as it is getting really expensive replacing parts.....

The board which is listed on this site is a little over kill for what you want, however you could strip it down and make it do what you want. The best solution for you would be to make a different version of board and simply add in PC turn on (off), inverter turn on and off section (relay). The board design could be very small with just a few components. Downside is that you will have a locked startup time and shutdown time, which means that you can't change it. As you already know, you need to have a delay time for when you crank your car on and you need to have shutdown delay to allow your PC to turn off, before power to the inverter is cut. Code for this is easy and could be written right away. I could design such a unit if a few people are interested. I could list the code and drawings in a few days. However, I would need to know the delay times which I have listed above for everyone to use, which makes it a little harder, since every PC boots faster and slower then others.

With 1 led and 1 push buttom you can make it custom selectable :

1 push on the buttom : led blinks 1 time = ready to program e.g. time before boot start
push buttom for the time needed (with a max time limit )
Answered with 4 blinks

is this project still alive, i had some major issues with carputing, but i'm back now, and starting a new project on a 97 chevy tahoe.

and forgive me for not reading the last 10 pages, does this unit incorporate a ATX-PS? or is that seperate.

furthermore, how much for a completed unit?

I sure hope so, I've already began my quest to gather all the parts. I've gathered most of it already, just need to find a pic programmer.

I'm currently seeking some clarification from OPTCZR, hope he replies back.

This does not include a PS, it's just an AWESOME shutdown controller!

Luwye hasn't been around in a while. He pretty much abadoned the project or the forum but put forth his work to that point. No big, life changes priorities sometimes. Optczr has sort of carried on developement but it's pretty much a private project with the promise of sharing it once closer to done. But, see previous "priorities" comment..............

Yup

Can't be bought yet, unless optczr is selling units now. The last one I got from him was mostly finished, but I had to source a few pieces and finish assembly. He built one for himself and had leftover parts he offered for sale. Was only two incomplete units if I remeber. I got one, someone else bought the other. Worked pretty good but I abandonded the project for a DSATX instead of an inverter.

Keep in mind, this is a project, not a product...........yet.

Guys are around when they're around. Life's funny like that..................

Cheers

16F877A fuse settings

Hi All, would someone possibly help this newbie out with programming this PIC. Is there a particular fuse setting needed or is it automatically set when you download the hex file into the PIC?

Thanks!
