Exclamation Help: 14 pin psu

Hi everyone
this is my first post. I am starting a carputer project and have run into a problem. I got a computer yesterday and ordered an opus dc-dc power supply. the problem is that the computer seems to have a psu with a 14 pin connector onto the motherboard. I think that the dc-dc is a 20 pin can i get an adaptor or something?

Thanks for youre help guys

Doubtful. I'm willing to bet you have an HP or Dell SFF unit.
They have motherboards that don't comply with the ATX standards.

I could be wrong, but you don't give us any inforomation about what hardware you intend to use.

Hi
thanks for the reply its a Compaq i bought it off ebay. I think i may have cooked it tonight i was soldering two wires to the switch so i could hook up my DC-DC power supply and for some reason when i press the power button it turns on but then goes off a couple of seconds later. Ever heard of this? I think i might just buy another computer with the right PSU and go from there. Any suggestions on a computer (im on a budjet so around $150 is good)

thanks

Go the the manufacturer's website and find the pinouts for both your computer and power supply. then try digikey.com for connectors to make a custom cable assembly.

I am in the same boat as everyone else in here but I havent received my unit yet and I have not bought a PSU yet either. The pinouts though are described in this thread: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=21812 at the VERY BOTTOM there is 2 .pdf files the bottom one has the pin out readings and also shows how to hook it up to a m1-atx although with the newer p3 SFFs you are prolly going to need a m2-atx PSU. I have not started on my carPC other than software so I have not confirmed this yet.

it is really nice though that as soon as I start posting questions about my PSU issues that 3 other post come up about the same thing.
