laptop charger interference

hey guys,

im effing stoked right now, after giving up a year ago, i now have an installed, interactive CarPc. I fixed the TS, fixing the VGA probs, fixed the turnon all is great.

EXCEPT the universal laptop car adaptor im using is interfering with the sound (not too noticeable if PC is up and HD down, because the same amount of interference comes from PC regardless of volume).

BUT the same adaptor is also playing havoc with the lilliput. Im not running the lilli off a regulated 12v (since i have laptop) it is just in the normal wiring harness, but that seeems okay cause its perfect if the laptop gets power from my house.

So basically, this universal adaptor causing interference into the monitor (through USB or VGA) and into the line out sound.

Are there any products that can filter this interference out?

Did you ever solve this problem?
I have a very similar setup (Lilliput indash screen and a laptop powered from a universal in car charger - into cigarette lighter socket..) and everything is perfect if running from the laptop battery, but once I plug the cig lighter socket in to charge the laptop I get massive audio interference and also interference on the screen

swift_gti,

I had the same problem that you have, I’m using a Laptop using universal power supply to power the laptop, and the TS was powered off the cigarette lighter. I had a slight noise problem when the screen was plugged in. The way that I fixed all of my noise problems was to make sure that all of my power and ground wires are from the same source (including all your amps). For a test I got a cigarette lighter socket splitter and plugged in the power adapter and TS into the splitter. It cost me all of 6.00 at RadioShack, but the noise was gone. After that I cut off the ends and re-ran all of the power wires in the car so that the power was on one site and the RCA and USB cables were on the other. No more noise

Thank you for the suggestion Erie, I will test out your theory and let you know how it goes
Only slight problem is that my TS is an Indash stereo unit so the power comes from the stereo loom.. I don't know if that cable would be rated enough to put the laptop charger on aswell... ?

In the end of my wireing project, I ran power from the fuse boxes in the trunk to power my dash TS. Using a common ground for all your componets is always the best bet. Good luck.
