My new Opus 250W just got fried

Today i installed my opus in my car after setting my computer inside. On first power up, the unit was fine. On the second power up, the center yellow piece by the j1 connected started to smoke. After that, the power supply power up my motherboard but will not go into post. My 12v regulated line now only puts out .02v. this sucks. Any suggestions?

btw, filled out rma number from opus already. also, with ac-dc power supply, everything boots up and works fine

Sounds like you did your power supply some damage. Did you have fuses on the power lines? Did you accidently short out the output or input wires of the PSU?
Hard to say what the yellow piece by the connector is from the pics on their site, but it looks like a capacitor. Shouldn't be too hard for them to fix it.

the power supply is fused from the battery at 100a to the distruibution amp. from the distribution block with a 50a fuse to the power supply and finally, a 15 amp in-line fuse to the motherboard.

wow thats crazy, maybe you overloaded to PSU...maybe too much voltage went through the power line. Is your ground wire grounded well?

yeah...it's grounded with a gold plated ring straight to the body. the reason why there is a big fuse is because i have a 800w amp for my subs and a 600w amp for my highs.

oops..the 15a in-line fuse is to the powersupply, not motherboard. sorry.

Right, disregard. After over 10 years of working on computers and modifiying them, I made one of the biggest NOOB mistakes.

Would you believe that the ATX plug to the mobo wasn't on all the way?! I blame the alcohol consumption of the past few weeks.

talk to chris today at opus. He said to send it in. The part that got burnt was for the regulated 12v line capacitor. I still couldn't figure why the motherboard would not go into post with the power supply but okay with the ac-dc home power supply. Any ideas?

May be tomorrow I will install my I don't have Alot of experience with this but I got one 10ga wire with an 20a fuse just runing from the battery to my trunk just for the opus 250w and I got another for my 4ch amp and mono amp. the only thing that I'm gonna mix between my amps and the opus is the ground and I am thinking about put another ground just for the opus.

3 yellow wires they go to the + wire that comes from the battery.
3 blacks wires they go to the ground that I have in the trunk.

If I'm mistaken plz some body tell me before I frie my opus

Unless you are using a distribution block, you should avoid grounding multiple devices to the same point. It's a quick way to get a ground loop. You also want to keep your ground point as close to the device as possible.

my amps are grounded together via the distribution black. the ground for my computer is grounded separately from the amps.

Actually this is not correct. You are more likely to get ground loops when you have multiple grounding points. The best thing is to have everything grounded at one point.

Opus Powering On By Itself

I'm using a dell optiplex 240

I just installed my opus, connect all the wires, put the fuse and all that then when I connect the negative to my car battery the psu turn on and the computer amps to. PROBLEM THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE CAR.

I USE MY TESTER TO SE IF I PUT THE WRONG CABLE TO THE ACC WIRE, BUT THE WIRE THAT I'M USING IS THE RIGHT ONE. :S

any body have a clue of what's happening? I may take a picture of the connection today. and post ith
