Power????!!!!!!!?????

Dell offers auto adapter for laptops....will that work to power if I hardwire it in(not just plugging into cig lighter)to the remote wire on my amp (if that is the best way)? One is made by Lind and the other by Duracell. They are 90 and 130 watts respectivly and I am not sure which to choose. I have an Inspiron 8500 that will be a permanent install. It has the centrino processer and I did not find a wattage calculator for this particular one(although there were others for Intel). Also, any ideas around powering off??? I found and purchased from one of the members of this site something that allows the laptop to come on with the car, but I need something to turn it off. I have seen the hibernate option but am not sure how comfortable I am with that since I may not be in the car a few days at a time. There is a lot in here and I have spent some time looking but can not find specific answers. Any help is appreciated if only to answer parts of this lengthy post. Thanks

I would go with the 130 watts, that should be plenty to power the laptop and a few extras. Don't see a problem with using hibernate on the laptop since the power draw while hibernating is very small. If you know you're going to be away from the car for a while, you could always unplug the laptop or take it out of the car.

Look for a program call ShutControl v1.02, there might be a newer ver. I used it on my laptop. You call set it to shutdown, restart, hibernate and standby. Great program.

The duracell 130 watt "brick" works perfect, you just have to make sure you wire to a 12v acc/switch wire or it will not charge the battery/turn on the computer. Using my amp remote wire did not work as it did not put out a full 12v.

Dont plug it directly to the remote wire on the amp , that wire doesn't carry enough current. Get a relay , grab the power from the battery or something and the switch wire from the acc wire from the head unit.
