Unhappy Cartenix 1900

Hi,

I am new to this so please be gentle

I have a Laptop ( 19v ) and a Lilly Touchscreen ( 12v )

After reading hundereds of various threads here and specifically 40+ pages of the " Power supply " thread I thought I had come up with a solution that the Carnetix 1900 would be the best power option having the shutdown/startup and multiple voltage outlets

But have seen a couple of people mention that I will still have to hack and solder the button of the laptop ??

Surely this cant be right can it

W3bm45t3r (sp ) said that I didnt need his module to simulate the button press as the 1900's shutdown/startup function and windows is set to " Hibernate " and " Resume after hibernation " would do it automatically

Not going to order this until I have a definative answer so please help

Good choice.

Yup. How do you expect to turn the laptop on? IT's either that or reach over to where teh laptop is, open the lid and press the power button.
The Carnetix has to send the power signal somewhere, and that somehwere needs to be the power button.

That's assuming your laptop has the feature to automatically startup/shutdown when it receives power. Not all of them do.

Please take a look at this thread.... Feedback appreciated.
http://www.carnetix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=836

We'll also be introducing "programming jumpers" in the future that will allow the P2140 to be programmed to any voltage between +12V and +18V in 1V steps....just for the laptop users .

Mike,

I thought I was registered on your site but apparently not...and I didn't feel like going through the registration so unfortunately I'm going to hijack this thread a bit.

HP nc6400 with Broadcom 8.48 drivers doesn't have wake on link

Fujitsu S7020 with Broadcom 8.27.1 drivers doesn't have wake on link

Fujitsu P7010D with Realtek RTL8139/810x 5.512.206.2004 drivers has "Wake on Link Change"

I'll check a Dell and a Gateway later today and update with that info.

-----------

To at least add a bit of "on topic info" - As DP said, you'll need to tie into the power button somehow (unless Mike gets the WOLink stuff worked on the P2140-PC)...that can be through the button in the laptop or the power button on a docking station (which is less stressful to do since it costs a lot less).

Rick,

Sorry about the forum. We've had a rash of spammers lately and have been deleting accounts that look like they might be spammers. I don't see your registration.

Great info. Thanks for the feedback. This is the second report of the Realtek device supporting WOLink.

No sweat on the account...I understand wanting to kill the spammers.

Both the Dell D610 and Gateway M460G I have are using Broadcom and niether shows WOLink (driver versions 7.86 and 7.80).

I forgot about the older Compaq Presario 2100 I have. It uses a National Semiconductor Corp DP83815/816 NIC with 5.0.140.2 version drivers and it supports "Wake on Link Up"

I found alot of that with my Realtek based setups. OEM Drivers might says Wake On Link, Realtek drivers say Wake on Link Change, MS Drivers show nothing.

On another note. Anyone know a quick way to test Wake on Link? Should just plugging in a active network cable work?

Yes, enable WOLink, put your laptop into hibernate, leave the AC adapter ON, then plug in your ethernet cable.
