Stupid M2 ATX !!

Hello everybody!

Just want to share my experience regarding M2 ATX.

I'm a little bit annoyed about its intelligence!!

It doesn't recognize if the PC is on or not.
That means, when the PC is on before I start the ignition, the M2 shuts down the PC

Or if I prevent the shut down after switching of the ignition (with Streeddeck), the M2 thinks the PC is off, turns the amps of and also shut down, if I switch the ignition on again - that's shaming!

Shouldn't it be easy for the M2 to check the on/off status of the PC by the "power on" line (pin 14) of the ATX connector?? and react appropriate...??

If it responded adequate I wouldn't need an additional power switch (ON-AUTO-OFF) like somebody have.

What are your thoughts??

yeah it as anoying.. if i manually shut the pc down when i leave the car when i turn the ignition back on it doesnt turn off cus it thinks it's still on..

hey i think i feel what your are talking about !! but if you try to connect the on/off wire to ACC of the car ! it may help !

I don't have that problem. How old are your M2's? Maybe a firmare upgrade for it is in order? I can turn the PC on/off manually whenever I want and the M2 does grab the on state from pin 14. So if it is off when the car shuts off, it stays off. Then when the car goes on, it comes back on. If it is on when the car goes off, it shuts it off.

Seems like something is actually wrong with the M2, or maybe that is just using an older version of the PIC software, so it is not as intelligent as the new ones!

You need that for any "intelligence" at all for the M2. Without it, it is in dumb mode.

I tested it all again, and it seems that I was a little overhasty.

When I turn the pc off while ignition is on, and then also turn ignition off -nothing happens, so everything works right in this case!
But following situation doesn't work right:

- PC and ignition is on
- I turn the ignition off
- Streetdeck countdown appears
- I cancel the countdown and keep the pc alive

Now the M2 is irritated and thinks the pc is off and swithes the amps off.
Then when I switch the ignition on again it doesn't recognize that the pc is still running, sends the pulse and the pc wants to shut down.

I think the M2 is not prepared for a software like SD, where you can prevent the shut down.

But the most important is that I can switch off the pc while driving and it stays off when I kill the engine.

Does anybody have the same issues???

The SD shutdown thing is only if you are using the streetdeck prebuilt computers. It will not work no matter what on an ordinary SDC.

It's not as bad as first quoted, but in my opinion it should not power the pc of, if I turn on the ignition.

It seems (I haven't tested this way) that following works right:

Aaaaaaaarg!!!! You CANNOT "PREVENT THE COMPUTER FROM SHUTTING DOWN". This is for the proprietary SD hardware. Your issue is with your bloated software, not with the M2. There is no way to prevent the shutdown and expect the M2 to know that because it sends it pulse like it should and assumes the PC is off. Then it waits until the hardoff timer is triggered and pulls the plug. If you want this functionality buy a G4 when it comes out...

I can prevent the shut down in Windows with many programs (not only bloated SD), but you are absolutely right, I cannot expect the M2 to be prepared for this situation !!!

Although I think it's not nessesary to turn the pc on, when it is still on!

whatever, you can not have everything...

Yes you can prevent it software wise, but there is no communication between the M2 and the hardware, so therefore you cannot stably do it with what you have.

The M2 is the el cheapo unit of the CarPC world and everyone knows it. It works brilliant when you use it as it is supposed to be used.
