Yea, I'm pretty much a dub guy. So in to dubs that I want to change my name to Jay Dubs
I've only noticed couple of dubs around. One of the mods/admins has a vr and someone with a MKV. I'm sure there's more but I don't really see anyone.
Also, keep me posted on your progress. I think I will go with Carnetix 2140 for this sx270n.

Solder the leads you’ve just cut to the ends of that like this:
Red (12vin CPU) to Red (12vout PSU)
Brown (12vin CPU) to Red (12vout PSU)
Black (Ground CPU) to Black (Ground PSU)
White (Ground CPU)to Black (Ground PSU)
Also, solder the screen (Wire Mesh Ground) to black.
Fold the Green and Yellow wires back against the cable and tape them up.
Tape each join up individually, then tape the whole lot together.

When you say Red to Red and Brown to Red do you mean the same Red or second Red wire?
In another words would both Red and Brown (CPU) be connected to the same Red (PSU)?

I just picked up an SX270 with a P4 2.8GHz HT, 1GB RAM, 40GB HDD, Power Cable, DVD-ROM all that good stuff for $200 shipped. I dont know if thats a good price or not but it looked pretty good. Im about to order a P2140 to power this beast of a computer, any one have any other suggestions before I order this? How well will this work with the 2.8GHz HT processor compared to the other CPUs this can come with. Thanks a lot in advance.

Works perfectly!
The longest I had it running was this past weekend for about 4-5 hours and everything was fine.
BTW, that's a good price and for the most part that's what they go for.

One last question, I was just thinking about this... I need a lot of the options this comes with to work with out a hitch such as: no "pop" through speakers when booting, then I want it to go into standby when ignition goes off and turn the PC on when I unlock my doors. I have read that some people have issues with these options how have they worked for you? Thanks again!

I soldered wires on to the power button on the mother board

OK, I'm really getting tired of pushing the power button on my SX270. I've taken the top off, and looked at the power button, but I have absolutely no clue where you are soldering the green and white wires. From the inside, it looks like the power button pushes down a very small white plastic plunger in a small black box soldered on the motherboard.

With the power connected, I've tried just jumping the two sides of this box with a screwdriver to see if this made the connection, but it did not (someone posted that this is the way to find the connections -- I have no idea). This seems to be the only place to connect anything to. So, what am I missing???

Please help -- this is driving me out of my mind!

first you guys should be going to the carnetix forum and post there . Mike will help you out right away.

He will answer your question and fast.

I have posted the wires colors, above once .
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/1039058-post3.html

Red - Primary Output 1&2 (they both are the main power source ( computer ))
Brown* - Secondary Output ( like screen, usb hub,XM,...any other thing you want to power )

some computer ( like 18,24volt ) use 2 power wires to connect to the computers.
12 V use one.

that is why there are 2 power wire.

You will be fine. you will be shock to see how low of Watts yours computer will use.
Get it you will be happy with. Just upgrade the flash on it. when you get it.

1. speaker POP - just hook the " Blue (output side )- to a amp ( remote on wire ) " of the P2140 to your amps. There is a setting that you can change the delay time on he remote wire.
No pop

2. no problem with standby when ignition goes off. It is set up to do that.As one of the options.

3. turn the PC on when I unlock my doors- That can be done. it is a little harder to do.

a. you have to hook the Blue wire on the input side to a + side of the door lock. and set the input time to be set to make the P2140 to come on.
b.if you dome light come on it can be hook to it.
c. you can hook Blue wire to after market extra accessory wire.
d.if you can start the car remotely it will work too

Why not just let the P2140 take you computer out of standby when you start the car?

Mine goes in to Hibernate mode. When I start the car . it take 5 -7 sec to be up . Time it take me to put on my seat belt. And that is a boot.

With standby it should only take 2-4 sec to be up and ready to run. My screens take longer than that to start up and get warmed up to run.

yes, the power button should have 2 wires coming out of it. that is what you solder/clamp/connect the remote wire to to turn it on. the solder can be done at switch, wires or MB

it is better to try it with a wire instead of a screwdriver. jump it with a wire it will turn on/off.

does not mater with side of the turn on button you put the G & W wire to. those two wire act as a relay and connects the power on button for what ever time you set the P2140 to hold it. If you had it to long the computer will come om and back off.

ok, please check Mike out on the carnetix forum. You will get great support from Mike.

And if you have any more Question just ask.

I own a car audio shop. And I have install at least 25 of them in the past 6 months.
Not including the 4 installed in my Demo SUV and 1 in all 4 of my cars.

Thank you for responding to these questions. My question is very specific to the Dell 260/270. If it used the standard ATX power supply connector, this would not be an issue. The wires would be very simple to solder. However, the motherboards on this PC have a very tiny switch soldered on the board that the power button depresses. There are no wires that I can see. There are no leads to solder to, unless I'm really missing something. The reason I asked this question is that Thunderstick posted in one of the first messages in this thread that he had soldered these wires successfully in one of these PCs. I would love to see how he did it, because I see no way to do it. If this can be done on one of these machines, please, please enlighten me.

I use a fanless system in my accord . And I have the same type of switch you have . If you are not good at soldering you might want to take it to a person that can. On the back side of the motherboard , where the switch, is 2 solder points that hold the switch there. That is the one you need to solder on. they are really small

In my case , I soldered 2 one wire to each point and ran the wires to the rear of the case then installed an audio female plug on the computer case. then All I did is put the the male audio plug on the G & W of the P2140 . to be able to remove it. if you do this audio plug ideal. Buy STEREO plugs ( 3 connection ). and cut off the ground connection on both. Just use the 2 right and left connections. or it will never work.

if you want to test it. To find the 2 solder points . on the back side of the MB. take a wire and jump the solder point right under the power button. be very " CAREFUL " . or you could be saying

Really though soldering the power button may be the only option. Unless you can make it work with the wake on lan. Going in to standby shoudlnt be to bad as long as you are using a second battery and a battery isolator. This would allow you to use the USB shutdown and startup option efficiently.

Newbie alert!! - How would I hook up the p2140 to a second battery and battery isolator (is this the same thing as a tank circuit?)

Thank you in advance

You hook it up the same way you would hook it up to a single battery system. Which is hooking up the primary input red wire to the positive terminal on the battery. Also, make sure you fuse the primary hot line the that connects to the battery with a 15A fuse also. Finally youre going to want to make sure your PSU is set to 12v for the primary line. You can do this by taking the top off of the P2140 and its a jumper setting. For more information refer to the user manual for the PSU. Thats really all there is to it.

For future reference you should make a new thread with your questions instead of digging up really old threads, it usually works out a lot better. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply, however I don't think I made it quite clear what I was trying to do. I want to hook the P2140 to my car 's main battery, as well as to a second "backup" battery. Is this possible with the P2140? If so, how?

Thanks in advance

Caretix dying?

Hi I got a p2140 from the mp3car store lastweek. I followed this thread to install it

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/powe...-question.html

I have 2 problems actually. First when I install the psumon it says application error 0000007f ... and will not start. I installed the dotnetfix but it didnt help. I installed it on another xp machine and it works fine. Now the bigger problem. The 2 round silver things near the 8 pin moldex connects is getting very Hot but the power supply works normal...just has that burning electronic smell. The dlyon is only registering 1.5 volts. Not enough to remote power on the amp. It powers the pc fine. Can you help? Do I need a RMA?
