Any chance that some binaural microphones will work. I've already got some of these that I use to record live music: http://www.core-sound.com/mics.html
Seems that these could be mounted a little more discretely than some of the others I've seen. I guess I'll have to play around with them when I have some time. Any chance I could use the Onstar microphone that I already have in my truck from the factory? I didn't renew the Onstar service so just wondering if it may be possible.

f that. i don't want a headset really, but i'm sure that would help being closer to your head. also you will not be able to play music at all while using these mics right? are there any they can detect what is coming out of your sound card and cancel the wave so it only picks up your voice?
i'll spend $40 on a mic max.
edit: this one https://web59.mysecureserver.com/tal...i-bin/micA.asp looks like the logitec one i posted up earlier. but what about the telex m-560 mic? it got a really good review.

It all depends on the performance you desire. If you want to get crappy results then by all means buy a 20 dollar peice of crap mic. If you want to get good results in an automotive environment then you better get an extra good microphone.

Do you guys know if the factory mic in the Audi A4 is good enough to use with this software or will I have to buy another mic? Is is possilbe to hook this mic to the computer? I have seen it hooked up to car kits for cell phones but never to a computer.

I think SAPI does a better job with inexpensive mics than Antimatter realizes.

There is a huge difference between the two mic's but we do not know where the placement of either mic is. This test was done by the company the produces the mic, not an independent company. So they might be giving a little more favor to their mic. I may be wrong and the testing might have been fair and accurate, but we can not conclude to this either.

Weird. I'll add that later. I'll probably end up finishing my homework at 4 today :'(

So does mine. But I bet yours won't terminate when you close a movie when it is still playing. Its just another line I have to add to the timer.

Thank you. I have a low quality mic. It always picks up the heavy lyrycal rap that I listen to, but it doesn't respond to it at all. And its about 2 feet away from me. My recommendation is to gut a mic and drill a small hole in the plastic peice on the inside between the roof and the door. That would be very close to the driver, and won't be in direct line with a speaker.

Oh BTW 0l33l, I wasn't really trying to steal your thunder.
I just thought if I fixed it you would have more time to work on the main app,
which is shaping up nicely. (Unfortunately, redneck drawl will take more training ! )

Yeh, I know I would just like to have the source to all the apps that I distribute. Plus the problems were 10 minute fixes. So I just have to check if the movie is stopped and then exit Shouldn't be too hard I hope.
Main app: I need to put in the mic off function without actually muting the mic input (wouldn't be able to get it out of that mode). Should't be too hard, just a bit time intesive, that's all. Plus we got a history project due tomorrow :'(

Hey guys! Here's my first post.
As the guy who designed and led the SAPI 5 development team at Microsoft, I'm always glad to see happy customers. BTW, If you install the latest edition of Office (2003) you'll get an even better SR engine than the one that comes with the 5.1 SDK.
Microphones: You'll get what you pay for. Pay the extra bucks, and you'll be happy you did.
On the </P> versus </p> topic way up the thread, you should be able to use either one. Is SAPI not happy when you use the other one?
I'm a little confused by your use of "colour" in your grammar (maybe I missed a post while reading). Did you really intend for the user to be able to say "colour navigation voice down please"?
Keep up the good work! I'm excited to see how your app turns out.
I'm just starting my install on my car now. Hardware should all be in within a couple weeks, and then I get to start on the software side.

I've got office 2003 and SAPI 5.1 installed... which one is being used?
Well, I haven't tried the big </P>. The example program had it </p> and I had the mentaly: don't fix if it ain't broken I have never worked with XML so I have no clue
What is so special about noise canceling mics besides the price?
BTW: fordo - what language do you write in? I write in delphi (7)

A couple of things.. first off, I got the software to work. This thing is SLICK!! No more fumbling with the touchscreen to push Routis buttons.
I have not tried this in the car yet, but I did try on my laptop and it worked with the CHEAPEST mic I could find. Although I'm concerned I may have to get a better mic in my car. But that's OK, because I was going to get a cell phone that works with PhoneControl and use that. I'll be looking forward to being able to have a 'mute' so it won't be listening to me all the time.
Also, one minor thing, but after I figured out everything else, I just ignored it. Using the 'navigation destination home' feature works, but it will not work if you're out of state. For example, I was in Virginia the other day and my home is in Maryland. I tried this on my laptop and it choose a city in Virginia that has the same name as my city and choose a street that was close in spelling to my street. Don't know if there's a way to enter state, but that's just a slight glich I noticed.
Still... GREAT program.
