So does the Jabra BT250 work as a PC mic as well? On their website: http://www.jabra.com/products/BT250_Bluetooth.htm
it doesn't mention anything about being PC combatible it just seems to market it as Bluetooth phone compatible. Let me know because if it does work w/ all PC apps just like a mic then I think I'll get this one.
You said it works great right? Does it pick up music and use that as commands?
Thanks!!

I have not tried this in the car yet, but I did try on my laptop and it worked with the CHEAPEST mic I could find. Although I'm concerned I may have to get a better mic in my car. But that's OK, because I was going to get a cell phone that works with PhoneControl and use that. I'll be looking forward to being able to have a 'mute' so it won't be listening to me all the time.
Also, one minor thing, but after I figured out everything else, I just ignored it. Using the 'navigation destination home' feature works, but it will not work if you're out of state. For example, I was in Virginia the other day and my home is in Maryland. I tried this on my laptop and it choose a city in Virginia that has the same name as my city and choose a street that was close in spelling to my street. Don't know if there's a way to enter state, but that's just a slight glich I noticed.
Still... GREAT program.
Hmmm..... I live in Cali, so I'm like why bother changing the state. But yes, that would be a good addition
About the mic... I think I could get the chepest and make a small hole in the roof near the A pillar/roof.

So is the concensus that a cheap mic mounted in the a pillar is just as good as say an expensive wireless mic?

If this is true then I'll be fine with the factory mic in my car because it is mounted in the a pillar.

There is a huge difference between the two mic's but we do not know where the placement of either mic is. This test was done by the company the produces the mic, not an independent company. So they might be giving a little more favor to their mic. I may be wrong and the testing might have been fair and accurate, but we can not conclude to this either.
Look i am no noob and i am not going to get into the mic debate again but the consesus is that no matter how good the software is, if you don't have a good mic in the car you wont get high accuracy with your voice recognition.
You get what you pay for
And what is so special about a noise cenceling mic??? it cancels background noise
Go ahead a try using a crap mic. I know that in my setup i want to use voice recognition as a main interface.... so paying a little extra upfront will pay off in the long run. Put whatever crap logitec mic in your car that you want. I garuntee that you wont be able to use it with music up loud and with window or sunroof down (normal operating environments for me )

Agreed. I will be using a cheapo mic untill I have found it works and I like it... Then I will fork out the money for a good one, I do agree that you get what you pay for

Yea.... i still havn't really found one that i am will to straight go and buy.
I'll probably do the same as you use a crappy mic at the beginning and until i iron out the bugs and then invest in a high quality noise canciling mic

I was not trying to say you were wrong or anything, what you are saying is totally correct. I was just saying we can't be sure how accurate the test was. I know a cheap mic will not work very well, you will have to spend some money to for it to work well in a car, especially if it is going to be your main interface.
Plus I'm not going to purchase a mic, I going to use the factory mic in the Audi. It has to be good, I paid some good money for that mic.
I'v done some research on Audiworld and poeple have been able to use the factory system with thier cell phones, so I hope this works out well for me.

Have you thought of, instead of a mic mute, have a mic activation word. So it will only 'pay attention' after you say for instance" Computer, navigation enter three"
So the word 'Computer' will tell it to listen to a command and then ignore?
Just a thought, and then I could be a super geek and say stuff like "Computer, warp one please"
lol

Yep, it works as a PC mic. It works very well too. Even with music at a reasonable volume it recognizes my words. I use it in my car and the only time I have a problem with voice recognition is when my A/C blows into the mic.

Thats exactly what Street Atlas 2005 does. I say "Computer where am I?" and it answers me. You can also set the "pay attention" word to anything you like.
Set it to "Hey *****" then you can say "HEY ***** WHAT IS THE NEXT TURN!" and it will tell you where to turn. The only thing, is it might get confused when I'm talking to my wife.

Too bad routis does not have this option for saying where you are. The closest thing is to get the next direction
You can add the pay attention word to all the values in RoutisVoice.XML and it will have the same effect.
