I have a friend who recently bought a very nice high end video camera with a built in hard drive. He got a great deal through the "buyers club" he's in. Basiclly you join and then sign up to buy an item. When there's enough people signed up for the item the club orders it. The club can get lower prices by buying in larger quantities from the distribitor or manufactor. When the order is recieved the club ships out the individual orders to it's members who get the item for a really good price.

well that is sort of what we do at mp3car - we buy all sorts of stuff from people all over the world, in large quantities so that their pricing is lower, hold it, and then sell it to forum members and other customers.

what exactly is your suggestion - for mp3car to run a buyers club?

That might be a neat idea on some kind of specialty hardware... but I don't see it happening on stuff that's available already in the store here, and online at other places.

Years ago this type of thing used to work, but with the technology as it is now, and lots of manufacturers selling directly to the public, the cost savings wouldn't be worth the hassle I think.

agreed. If it was something like the BLoat which we did a group buy for, i would be interested in helping the community do a group buy, but otherwise, we hope that forum members buy from the store, as it supports the company that manages the forum...and we could use some support about now.
