Thanks JSN, Any news is good news, the way i see it.
TJ - I haven't installed the components yet as I'm still sorting and pricing touchscreens for use with the convertible. Also, I'm giving serious consideration to changing over to a Mac Mini based CarPC running Leopard and Windows. Still drawing board on that issue, but you can still find some of installs in the worklogs. I'm flying to London this July, so hopefully when I get back, I can get this going and done.

I haven't heard from Jelta in probably 3-4 months, so I would assume the project is dead in the water. I'm pretty bummed but what are ya gonna do ya know?

Hi guys,
I'm not dead. I'm just having some personal issues accompanied with pc issues.
I was planning a comeback, but issues with my development rig set me back again. (eg, my dev-environment is not compatible with 64bit windows, and the upgrade of this environment kills source compatibility.)
I evaluated .NET, but couldnt find a fast and lightweight graphics engine.
What I just have to do is reinstalling my rig again with 32bit windows;
but thats a lot of work for which I cant find time to do.
I need to do this to continue the project. Its still a great idea and project. It is still worth the effort.
@NoTec:
Ill contact you tomorrow to talk about the schedule.

Very nice looking thus far. I can see alot of work and personal time has gone into this project and being one of many projects myself I know how it is to juggle many things and include work, personal life and on going projects. All I can say is place them in the order of inportance.
Couple of things.
#1 Some of the posted pics (screen shots) are broken. Not sure if they have been deleated on the server you have them stored on or what.
#2 I have been using CF and there are pros and cons on it and I'm looking for alt's to it. This project with all the input from the others and the willingness of you the programers is going to make this a very good FE.
#3 I'm looking at redoing my carpc and concidering using a Laptop for the pc. One thing I would love to see it the ability to have the FE see a loss of power on the A/C (or dc/dc) adapter plug and concider that as a IGN shut off and place the pc into what ever option you chose for IGN off (hibernate, shut down, timed hibernate ect...) For a regular pc there are a few DC-DC power supplies out there that handle the shut down when it senses loss of power from the IGN. Thats great for those running a reg pc but dosn't really help a laptop based system. I know I could come up with a relay based input on say the serial port or usb maybe but thats alot of work when the windows system can already tell when the power cord is unpluged and it switches over to the battery.
#4 Will the FE have multi assignable screens? Main front (touch screen), back screen (DVD/Music selection) maybe down the road a wifi touch screen.
As you may see I'm more of the hardware tech type. Being an ex-navy avation electronics tech helps me out in the hardware aspect of the carpc system.
I'm looking forward to seeing this project move forward (especialy after all the time all of you have put into it) and progress to the point it hits the streets. I would love to give it a spin and see if I could break it (in a good way that way I could let ya know what happened). So when ya get it to a beta testing closed or open I would be interested in try it out if you need some one on the hardware end.
Ok I gave way more then my two cents worth... LOL keep the change.
Keep up the great work!!
And oh yea for those wondering why I'm going to go with a laptop? Built for portability, rugged design, screen already for tweaking with out running back and forth between front seat and rear of My Xterra, small thin design (easy to hide), cooling not a major issue. Most all if any addon hardware is USB based already (extra storage, tv/radio/gps/cams/additional video outs ect.)

Laptops have that functionality built in. Open control panel, go to power options... Power management was actually one of the main reasons I went with a laptop for my setup. The only non-trivial thing was getting it to turn on when I turn the key, but if you can solder to the power switch leads you can solve that easily too. The trick is finding a laptop with accessible power switch leads.

Actually, there is!
I had a set-backs due to a lot of personal and technical factors,
but I've been porting the sourcecode to newer platforms since.
The compiler is upgraded to the latest version, and therefor a lot of
toolkits required updates too. There were also incompatibilities with
the data-storage toolkits, which I've replaced already.
We're currently redesigning the library-browser, an important component
for CarMa. All browsing and playlisting will be done through this.
Also, on the roadmap, is a new redesigned skin. The original ideas were
great from a GUI perspective, but sometimes not quite practical
when 'on the road'.
I'm going to write a more detailed update next week, hopefully with
more news about the library-browser!
