Thumbs up Griffin Powermate Review

i posted this at ca.com earlier. that is me in the video.

Griffin Powermate Volume Knob

*photo from Griffin's site

The powermate came in. Turns out you can use it for multiple things. if you turn left & right it does one thing. you hold down and turn it can do another.

i have mine set to
Left = scroll up
Right = scroll down
Hold Down & Left = Decrease volume
Hold Down & Right = Increase volume
Click Down Tap = Mute

I made a short clip using the powermate while showing the new Centrafuse XLE, i didnt go over navi.

I really like it, i plan to get another one. put this in my car and the other for my desktop
the reason I like the weight is, it doesnt feel cheap, it feels reliable.

oh yeah this works on mac too.

Pros:
- Heavy(although i think it should be heavier)
- Easy to use
- Installs well
- Aesthetically pleasing
- doesn't feel cheap in hands

Cons:
- Blue Led is neat but to flashy for me
- USB cable could be longer

its worth the money.

Just curious, does this allow different actions for the program currently in focus?
I use the Shuttle Pro because, for example, if iGuidance is in focus, the buttons, etc. relate to iGuidance whereas if Media Player is in focus, then the buttons, etc. relate to that app's settings, etc. The only downside to the Shuttle is it's size...

Thanks

where do you think I got mine

edit: although i must say the cd that came with the Powermate didn't install correctly, i had to download an updated installer from Griffin, not a big deal, but just might be useful for those who are experiencing troubles.

lol i was gonna get one today too. So much for that. Luckily its one of those items you dont really NEED so waiting wont hurt so much. Maybe they'll restock with the black ones.

Hells yeah. Just getting the ball rolling on my project and I snagged one for cheap before they disappeared.
Very sweet. I'd recommend them to anyone for this price. Get one for your home computer too.

was it difficult to bind the functions to the centrafuse commands?

how exactly do you set up the controls for the powermate?

i'm wondering how difficult it would be to set up the powermate to control road runner with Iphone skin.

I don't quite understand where you set it up in windows....

It's it kinda like when you set up controls in a game and you press a button with the keyboard or mouse to start the new function input, then you do the function with your powermate?

when windows is booted you'll see an icon in the lower corner where the system clock is. you double click that and the setup for the griffin pops up, there are Gloabl(universal) settings you can do or an application specific settings you can do. its real easy to setup.

heres a clip from mp3car.com store

Streetdeck and griffin powermate
You need to upgrade your Flash Player

thanks, that video showing the driver in action helps.

the only problem i see is that since I don't know what type of key stokes are binded in road runner skins, then I think I will have to do some work making the powermate work in Road Runner.

what a great looking item though...

I like the idea of getting two of them.

Any idea when they may be back in stock? I'm looking to make a large order soon and as I'm in Australia I'd rather bundle everything together in one order to save myself some costs

Thanks

It also works well with girder for added functionality. There is a plugin available on the Promixis website.
