At times, when it refuses to reset by unplugging/replugging the vga cable (even after a reboot) and I take the time to go grab a crt monitor and hook it up, I find the driver applet open on the desktop and the text says "Windows can not switch to Twin display mode until a second monitor is connected".
Of course at that point, I have already unplugged the Xenarc and connected the crt so I just unplug the crt and reconnect the xenarc and all is well.
I'd love to think this is a driver thing, but I cant get around the fact that when I get the white screen, its always at boot, and never shows the post. When the machine posts no drivers are loaded (just whatever non volatile stuff that normally resides on rom on the video card should be all that is active then). Now I know we ae talking about onboard graphic in this case, so I would guess that a driver install wouldnt touch the problem, it would have to be at least a bios update thing (and Im already running V04, the newest available).
Alrightythen, when you have tried everything that makes good sense, it's time to start trying things that make no friken sense.
I noticed (during my many trips lugging a crt to connect to this beotch when it refuses to show video) that at times, all I would have to do is connect the crt vga cable, connected to the crt of course, without plugging the crt in to the power outlet, and would still reset the video. (plugging just a vga extension cable in to the mb has no effect).
That got me thinking.
If it at times asks for a second display, and at times just plugging in a second (nonpowered) display resets it so it works, why not make the $%^G#$! little thing happy and let it think a second display is connected at all times ? Could it really hurt at this point?
I tore apart an old monitor and clipped the circut board that the vga cable originates from out. (cant just use the vga cable, cuz that doesnt work, but at times it will reset with the cable is connected to a monitor).
When I get a chance, Im gonna connect that to the DVI port (with an adapter) and see if I can get it to think two displays are connected.
Whatever, clutching at straws at this point.
