Review: SIIG ExpressCard to USB Converter ju-000012-s1

By Robert D. Wray, MP3Car.com
May 18, 2008

Manufacturer
: SIIG
Model: ju-000012-s1
Specs:
  • Compliant with USB specification, revision 2.0
  • RoHS-compliant
  • Allows USB-based ExpressCard/54 /34 adapters to work through your system USB 2.0 port
  • Supports data transfer rate up to 480Mb/s
  • Share your USB-based ExpressCard devices between your laptop and desktop (with this adapter)
  • Transparent installation with no added driver
  • Hot-plug and hot-swap support allow you to connect/detach devices without turning off your system
Price: $35.99 USD
Rating: 10/10
Manufacturer website: www.siig.com
Purchased from: (stolen from mp3car inventory)
Pros:
  • No additional power needed
  • Works great resuming from hibernate (unlike other pcmcia cards)
  • VERY small (see photo with quarter below)
  • Easy to remove from metal casing
  • Convenient holes for potential dashboard fabrication (see photo below)
  • Driver installation was a breeze.
  • Even firmware and signal strength updates worked!
Cons: None

Notes: I stuck this in my car for the weekend and was very pleased with the quality. Driver installation was a breeze and it always worked when resuming from hibernate. This is SO much easier to use than similar previous products like the U132. No drivers were needed. It just worked. (see screen shots below)

Card compatibility:
  • Mp3car has only tested this on the Novatel V640
  • Reportedly this works with many other cards. (per specs)
  • If you have sucess with this device, let us know and we will add your card to the "tested list"
