Will a housed option be available too? Keep in mind that I'm working on a commercial solution and that fabrication is not an option there.

Leaves 4 options:

standard housing
1 din flip-out (motorized)
2 din fixed
flip down

Will there be some of these available?

Thanks!

How much? I was pretty much sold on the AU setup, but if the setup you guys have is a good as you claim then the only other consideration is money.

One thing I like about the AU screen is that at 25% brightness it's as bright as the lilliput and it doesn't have the yelloe hue like the Xenarc screen. I would love to have a 4 way LCD screen shoot out/review, hint hint.

Is it AU Optronics / Promate, or another company ?
Is the VGA controller software controllable ?

I found the dimming kinda useless since the stages are too small, it doesn't matter much if the dimming is in 100 steps, if it only covers 10% (90%-100%) of the total brighness. You can however control the brighness as well, so in the end it wont be much of an problem.
It's nice to see that there are finally some options out there, 500nits and a 5 wire touch sounds awesome, I find my current set-up good enough and if you have something that's even better then we're all winners.

The coolest thing is however the VGA controller... I can't help myself from smiling when I think of the ease of controlling the thing, no hardware hacks what so ever, just a command over RS232. If "your" setup have that, well... I HATE U in that case I might have to buy my 3rd screen. Who the h-ll said it was less expensive getting a carputer than the stock navi !?

I'm sorry you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what does it allow you to do over the traditional lilliput/Xenarc.

Is it possible to extend the connection between the display/touchscreen and the controllers? I'd like to minimize the thickness of a display.

silentbob:

advantages-
control screen going on/off from computer (prevent windows messages from appearing)
control screen brightness based on time, light sensor, etc...

basically all functions of the screen become controlled by the computer instead of by buttons...

Exactly... I wrote a looooong answer and then IE died on me when sending it.
Since you also can control the VGA/Video inputs you can easily switch to reverse cam when the car is in reverse, switch to fwd cam when the car is moving very slowly.

You can have it fade in/out when turning on/off so that it gives you a bit more of that "OEM" feel nad you'll get rid of all those annoying windows/bios boot screens.

The "film" that goes from the display to the VGA controller is not so flexible
and extending that one isn't very easy.
In that case you'd have to build an interface board and then extend using cables.. but then the whole point is lost.

I'm putting everything in one double DIN case, so I'll either have the VGA controller right behind the screen or in the bottom of the case.

I've finished the design on the bezel, so now I'll have to get someone to make it for me.

Yes please. Keep it somewhere between $150 and $200 (as a kit including touchscreen) and you can count me as a sale.

Maximus, How did you go about purchasing this screen? I'm very eager to get the 8" transreflective (they do one?)

I can help out with the bezel if you wish, I've got a CNC mill.
